Review: Listen to Me (Fusion #1) by Kristen Proby

In New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kristen Proby’s brand new series, five best friends open a hot new restaurant, but one of them gets much more than she bargained for when a sexy former rock star walks through the doors—and into her heart.

Seduction is quickly becoming the hottest new restaurant in Portland, and Addison Wade is proud to claim 1/5 of the credit. She’s determined to make it a success and can’t think of a better way to bring in new customers than live music. But when former rock star Jake Keller swaggers through the doors to apply for the weekend gig, she knows she’s in trouble. Addie instantly recognizes him—his posters were plastered all over her bedroom walls in high school—he’s all bad boy...exactly her type and exactly what she doesn’t need.

Jake Keller walked away from the limelight five years ago and yearns to return to what’s always driven him: the music. If he gets to work for a smart-mouthed, funny-as-hell bombshell, all the better. But talking Addie into giving him the job is far easier than persuading her that he wants more than a romp in her bed. Just when she begins to drop her walls, Jake’s past finally catches up with him.

Will Addie be torn apart once again or will Jake be able to convince her to drown out her doubts and listen to her heart?

Listen To Me is the first book in Kristen Proby’s new Fusion series. If you have read any of her other books, you know you can always expect a good storyline, great characters, and just the right amount of sexiness to keep you interested throughout the book. Kristen gives us a great start to the series with Listen To Me.

Addison opens a new restaurant with four of her best friends. Each woman has a specific job to do there-bar, marketing, accounting, etc. Every book in the series will chronicle a different woman and their story. I love this concept for a series! In this book, we meet each of the women and are given some background, but this book centers on Addison.

Addie is looking for weekend entertainment for the restaurant when she spots Jake Keller, also known as Jake Knox, rockstar, at open mic night. After an accident occurred that Jake blamed himself for, he gave up performing, but stayed in the business writing songs. Although he likes to write songs, it’s just not the same hearing someone else sing them when he could be singing them himself. His best friend tells him to go to Addie’s restaurant and apply for the weekend musician job. When he gets there, he recognizes Addie from open mic night. She was someone he was interested in getting to know. Addie gives him the job, but squashes Jake’s hopes of dating her. She’s dated musicians in the past and isn’t interested-or is she?

I enjoyed this book from the get-go! Jake and Addie seemed like your friends next door-totally real and relatable. I loved learning about each of the women and getting a feel for them too. We were given just the right amount of information without being to cumbersome to read about the past. I was interested in them quickly. I also liked the dual POV. I am a fan of that since we know what each character is thinking-no guessing!

All in all, this is a light, fun read! Great start to the series. I am looking forward to diving into each book and getting an update on all the characters we’ve met along the way!
