Title: Off Base
After trading the barracks for a fixer-upper rental, navy SEAL Zack Nelson wants peace, not a roommate—especially not Pike, who sees things about Zack he most wants to hide. Pike's flirting puts virgin Zack on edge. And the questions Pike's arrival would spark from Zack's teammates about his own sexuality? Nope. Not going there. But Zack can't refuse.
Pike Reynolds knows there won't be a warm welcome in his new home. What can he say? He's an acquired taste. But he needs this chance to get his life together. Also, teasing the uptight SEAL will be hella fun. Still, Pike has to tread carefully; he's had his fill of tourists in the past, and he can't risk his heart on another, not even one as hot, as built—and, okay, yeah, as adorable—as Zack.
Living with Pike crumbles Zack's restraint and fuels his curiosity. He discovers how well they fit together in bed…in the shower…in the hallway… He needs Pike more than he could have imagined, yet he doesn't know how to be the man Pike deserves.

Off Base has a new adult feel to it that I wasn’t exactly expecting. I’m still not sure how I felt about that unexpected aspect. I knew going in to the book that one of the characters was a virgin. That should have been a warning to the new adult feel. They’re both in their early twenties. Pike is admittedly new to adulating. I still thoroughly enjoyed the book.
There were so many almosts with this book and none of them were what I was expecting when I decided to read it. Pike and Zack have mutual friends so they’re acquaintances, almost friends. So I was given something resembling one of my favorite romance troupes, the friends to lovers. That’s what opens the doors to allow them to explore the attraction they have for the other man. Zack is trying to be straight. That’s the only option available to him as far as he’s concerned. Pike knows he’s attracted to the hot SEAL but he knows it’s pointless to pursue a straight man. Two friends sharing a house is something that is both convenient and necessary for them.
The only thing that put me off of this book was the opening chapter. I knew from the first few paragraphs that Zack and Pike already knew each other. With this being the first book in the Out of Uniform series I was a little confused initially. A little searching informed me that this is a spin-off from the #gaymers series. I have not read any of those books. I will be going back to read Connection Error as I’m curious about Ryan and Josiah and their story to a happily ever after. I continued reading Off Base and have to admit that you do not need to have read any of the #gaymers books to enjoy this book. It was still just a little off at first.
*I’ve recently read Connection Error. Zack and Pike did NOT meet in that book! The first chapter of Off Base is just weird to me now. There was a definite feel of those two men having met in another book. I’m very disappointed with that aspect.*
