Review: Riot (Mayhem #2) by Jamie Shaw

When Dee Dawson meets sexy mohawked guitarist Joel Gibbon, she knows it won’t be long before she has him wrapped around her finger. No guy has ever been able to resist her… but Dee’s met her match in a player like Joel.

Dee’s not the relationship type—not after seeing the pain “love” has caused her friends and family—yet she’s desperate to make Joel want her more than anyone else. He quickly becomes an obsession, and when a reckless attempt to make him jealous ends in disaster, Dee turns into the damsel in distress she never wanted to be. With her carefree world crashing down around her, the last thing she needs is Joel’s pity.

But Joel is suddenly determined to prove he cares, and no matter how hard Dee tries to push him away, he refuses to let her shut him out. Now the girl who swore she’d never say those three little words must choose between guarding her heart and losing Joel forever… or falling head-over-heels for the tattooed rock star of her dreams.

You know when you’re reading a book and your emotions are all over the place before you even make it half way through it and you’re yelling at the book, “OMG, are you serious?” Yep, this is that book… I have managed to laugh, cry and even yell at my Kindle (while my children look at me like I’ve lost my mind) all before I even made it to 50%.

This has become an instant classic for me. I don’t say these things lightly and I don’t cry while reading (ok, maybe after), but this book has rocked me so hard on my a** that I just can’t wait to share this with the world.

After reading the first installment, Mayhem, it wasn’t at matter of “if” I’d read Riot, it was “when can I get my hands on it”. I’m so happy that I didn’t have to wait long because this is perhaps one of the best all around New Adult/Coming of Age love stories EVER! The Author set this story up so beautifully in Mayhem (very subtly) that you just knew that there would be drama…and boy is there DRAMA.

Dee, in her self proclaimed, safe slutty self, has outdone herself this time. Playing with the fire that is rock God Joel and getting burned in the process, but the good kind of burn, the kind of burn that’s slow and leaves just the right sting behind. The only problem is that she has absolutely no idea how to deal with her feelings and gets herself into a pretty serious situation. A situation that makes this story more than just a girl falling for a rock star. That’s all I’m going to say about it because the Author did a FAN-FREAKEN-TASTIC job dealing with the issue(s).

Joel, oh Joel. Every girl wants him. He can pick who ever he wants, yet he’s drawn to the train wreck that it is Dee. Not because he can “fix” her, because he’s actually drawn to her. Problem is, between all of the games they’ve been playing with each other and confused feelings, there’s no telling where this “relationship” is going.

If you don’t pick this book up and actually read it, you’re missing out on a brilliantly written series. I’m salivating, wishing the next one was releasing soon. I can’t wait!!!!!
