Review: Taken, Not Spurred (Lone Star Burn #1) by Ruth Cardello

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Ruth Cardello comes the steamy debut to the Lone Star Burn series.

Would-be writer Sarah Dery has just turned twenty-five and feels like her life is on hold. She's done squat with her English degree and is just killing time working for her parents. So, when the opportunity to spend the summer working on a ranch in Texas comes her way, she jumps at the chance, figuring it might be just the jolt she needs to get her creative juices flowing.

Tony Carlton is a handsome and reclusive horse trainer with a tortured past and an eye for trouble, this time in the form of a naked blonde stranger he finds in his shower.

The wrong turn that led Sarah into the arms of this sexy, brooding cowboy turns out to be just what she needed to find her steamy inner voice, but will their connection be enough to break down Tony's defenses?

On a journey to find herself, would be writer, Sarah Dery makes a wrong turn that leads to tortured broody cowboy, Tony Carlton and their connection may be just what she needs to find her steamy inner voice but will it be enough to break down Tony’s defenses in this captivating contemporary western romance.

This steady to fast paced plot captivates readers with suspense and romance. The author describes the story with well written scenes and details that capture the imagination and the well orchestrated scenes draw the reader deeper into the story. The characters are strong and compelling, grabbing the reader’s attention from the very beginning.

The attraction between Sarah and Tony burns hot from the very first and only gets hotter throughout the story with some hot and steamy sex scenes, but the relationship is a rocky roller coaster of a ride. Both have some emotional issues from a past tragedy to get over but Tony’s guilt over his makes getting any kind of attachment other than sex out of him a monumental task and the readers can’t help but get caught up in their story as sparks fly, tempers ignite and passion unfurls.

The story is an emotionally gripping tale of self discovery, emotional healing, family and friends’ loyalty and building hope that a future is possible. Tony really captures the reader’s heart as Sarah slowly breaks down the barriers around his heart and the reader can’t help but envy Sarah as Tony slowly awakens her inner steamy desires.  The captivating characters ensure that the readers want to come back for more, so I am looking forward to reading the next romance in the series.
