Review: Text Me, Maybe by Jolyse Barnett

New to the Big Apple, the last thing Lexie Bloom needs is to fall for two guys at once. Especially when she can’t have either. One is her personal trainer, an Adonis way out of her league. The other? A Brit Lit professor her svelte boss insists she woo for her—via text message, no less. Little does she know, the two are the same man…

Matthew Hennessey is intrigued by his shy new client at the gym. But before he gets the chance to ask her out, he discovers she’s the one crafting the flirty texts sent to him by a woman who wouldn’t know Lord Byron from Lady Gaga. To get to know her better, he allows Lexie to play her role. She may have given up on the idea of romance, but Matthew’s bound and determined to show her love is alive and well in New York City.

Text Me Maybe is a cute, fun little feel good story that leaves you in a warm, happy mood! I loved the characters and could see how their intentions were good, their execution though, was not so good. I knew all along there would be a huge reveal and was counting down the pages until it happened. There was plenty to keep me interested and I was hoping when the blow up occurred, there would be enough between these two to overcome the fall out.

Lexie was a super sweet girl, although she was a bit naïve too. She was guilty of trying to please everyone at the expense of herself. He boss definitely overstepped her bounds, but being in a new job, I could see how she wouldn’t turn her down being a people-pleaser and all. Matthew was charismatic and as a personal trainer, you knew he was ripped too! He went the extra mile to simply get to know her better! How valiant! They did have an easy-going chemistry and I felt clicked rather effortlessly. They truly belonged together. The road getting there was definitely a journey.

This book gave us sexy, humorous, endearing and even a little heart-wrenching scenes along the way. I thoroughly enjoyed getting from A to B even with a detour along the way. If you are looking for one of those lite reads after a long, heavy novel, then grab this little nugget and enjoy the retreat!
