ARC Review: Midnight’s Kiss by Donna Grant

Bound by the gods. Champions against evil. The Dark Warriors have taken their battle from ancient Scotland to the modern world—where a woman’s love is the greatest danger of all…

Dr. Veronica Reid is a world-renowned archeologist whose Druid abilities help her to unearth ancient magical items. The arrival of the all-too-attractive and charismatic Arran MacCarrick puts her on the defensive when he begins to question how she really finds her artifacts…until an unknown foe attacks and Ronnie discovers that Arran has a secret as great as her own. Together, they unleash an all-consuming passion that won't be denied...

Immortal Warrior Arran is on a mission to find the spell to bind the god within him. But one look at the impossibly beautiful Ronnie and he knows there is more to her than meets the eye. With danger lurking around every corner and an undeniable hunger that grows with every kiss, Arran must reveal who he is to keep Ronnie from his nemesis. Now he is left with no choice but to fight—or fall—for the woman he loves.

Wow! Midnight’s Kiss is one of those books that leave you wondering how all of that just happened and I not have whiplash and dead tired hands. There is one intense page turner to be found with this book.

There is so much going on in the Dark Warriors world. With the big climatic events of Midnight’s Seduction & Midnight’s Warrior there are some huge game changers, as there should be. I love that Donna is keeping it fresh and new in the villain department. I also have many questions about the new darkness that has seeped its way into the pages. I can’t wait to read the next book.

Ronnie and Arran have a great romance. They have so many hurdles to jump and it seems like as soon as they overcome one another presents itself. Ronnie doesn’t trust. She has some solid reasons behind this. Thus a new unknown person who insulates himself in her life with his large presence raises some hackles. Arran true to character does what he knows is best in protecting Ronnie. The moment he meets her, his one goal in life quickly becomes making her happy and seeing that no harm comes to her.

There is an amazing pacing to Midnight’s Kiss. The climatic moments come at you quickly and repeatedly. This makes the book impossible to put down. I do believe that Midnight’s Kiss just became my favorite Dark Warrior book.

Character Interview – Arran MacCarrick

Today, I’ll be interviewing the charismatic and bold, Arran MacCarrick, a Highlander with a primeval god inside him.  With his golden eyes and long, dark hair, he’s not a man easily forgotten.

DG: Hi, Arran.  Thanks for taking the time out of your schedule to chat with me.

Arran: ::winks:: My pleasure, lass.  I never turn down an opportunity with a beautiful woman.

DG:  ::blushes::  Um…thanks.  So, tell me a little about the god inside you.

Arran: He is called Memphaea, and he’s a god of malice.

DG: Does that malice carry over into you?

Arran:  Let’s just say I doona take shite from anyone.

DG: No, I don’t expect you do.  ::smiles::  Memphaea gives you powers along with immortality.  Can you tell us about the powers?

Arran: Each of the gods inside us had a special ability.  For Memphaea it was control over ice and snow.  I know can control those elements as well.

DG:  I bet that comes in handy in battle.  What else does your god do?

Arran:  You’ll know a Warrior because when we release our god because our skin changes the color the gods favor.  Memphaea favored the color white.

DG:  To blend in with the snow?

Arran:  ::shrugs his wide shoulders::  Possibly.  My eyes also change.  They become solid white, and I also have claws.

DG:  I’ve seen several Warriors, and I have to say that y’all are an impressive sight to behold.  Tell me, is there a special woman in your life?”

Arran:  ::rakes a hand through his hair::  No’ at the moment.  All the other Warriors have found their mates with Druids, and since Druids are no’ as easy to come across as they were four centuries ago, I’m no’ holding out much hope.

DG:  A man as good looking as you won’t have any problem finding a woman.

Arran:  ::gives a sexy smile::  You offering?

DG:  Me?  Ah, no.  I’m already married.  I know a couple of women who would be interested though.

Arran:  Good.  Send them my way.

DG:  Do you think Declan has truly been defeated?

Arran:  You mean do I think he willna ever return?  I’m no’ sure.  Deirdre returned.  Who’s to say Declan will no’ as well?

DG:  So what’s the next form of business for the Warriors and Druids at MacLeod Castle?

Arran:  We’re still looking for the spell that will bind the gods inside us and once more return us to mortals.

DG:  Is that something you want?

Arran:  I have no’ thought too much about it.  I know the Warriors and their woman are contemplating it.  I doona have a woman to think about the future with, so I’ll remain as I am and continue to battle whatever evil springs up.

DG:  And what if you do find a woman?

Arran:  ::pauses, his golden eyes thoughtful::  Then that might change things.

DG:  I know I’ve kept you long enough.  Thanks so much for dropping by.  There’s just something about a Highlander that intrigues us all.

Arran:  Anytime, lass.  And if you want to know what’s under my kilt, all you have to do is ask.  ::flashes a dazzling smile before he walks away::

Donna Grant is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of more than forty novels and novellas spanning multiple genres of romance.

She was born and raised in Texas but loves to travel. Her adventures have taken her throughout the United States as well as to Jamaica, Mexico, and Scotland. Growing up on the Texas/Louisiana border, Donna’s Cajun side of the family taught her the “spicy” side of life while her Texas roots gave her two-steppin’ and bareback riding.

Her childhood dream was to become a professional ballet dancer and study under the amazing Mikhail Baryshnikov. Though she never got to meet Baryshnikov, she did make it to New York City and performed in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Later, Donna’s love of the romance genre and the constant stories running through her head prompted her to sit down and write her first book. Once that book was completed, there was no turning back.

Donna sold her first book in November 2005 while displaced from Hurricane Rita, a storm that destroyed portions of the Texas Gulf Coast. Since then, Donna has sold novels and novellas to both electronic and print publishers. Her books include several complete series such as Druids Glen, The Shields, Royal Chronicles, Sisters of Magic, Dark Sword, Dark Warriors, and her new series, Dark Kings.

Despite the deadlines and her voracious reading, Donna still manages to keep up with her two young children, four cats, three fish, and one long haired Chihuahua. She’s blessed with a proud, supportive husband who loves to read and travel as much as she does.
