Review: Mine to Keep (Mine #2) by Cynthia Eden

Love is the most dangerous obsession…

Skye Sullivan is trying to put the pieces of her life back together. She survived a brutal stalker and escaped his abduction, and now she is looking to the future—a future that includes Skye’s lover, billionaire Trace Weston. Skye thinks the danger is finally over for her.

She’s dead wrong.

When Trace’s past comes back to haunt him, Skye discovers that the man she loves isn’t quite who he seems to be. Trace has been leading a double-life. An ex-special forces agent, his military training turned him into the perfect killing machine. He made more than his share of enemies during his time in the military—and as he built his security empire—and one of those enemies is striking back.

He won’t lose her.

Skye is the one weapon that can be used against Trace—his only vulnerability. But he won’t let her go—he can’t. Trace will do anything necessary to protect Skye. Anything. Yet when she discovers the secrets that he’s tried to keep hidden, Skye’s pain and rage may send her running directly into the cross-hairs of a killer…

From the first page you are thrown into the story and the tumultuous relationship between Skye and Trace.  This book picks up just a few weeks after the first book ends and has the same couple in it.  I didn’t read the first book so I missed seeing how they worked through all their issues and got together.  We get a brief overview of their courtship in this book but I would suggest reading the series in order.  I was a little confused and not as invested in their relationship as I would have been.  It was almost like picking up a novel, opening it to the middle and starting there.  However, I really enjoyed this story.  The suspense was very well written and I was second guessing who the killer was for most of the book.

Skye and Trace have a very intense relationship.  She feels that he treats her with kid gloves after the events of the first book leave her scared and with nightmares.  She doesn’t feel like he accepts her as his equal since he won’t share his fears or secrets with her.  Even when they are fighting they still have an undeniable sexual chemistry that steams up the pages and when Trace lets loose…wow.  The man is very intense, wild, and demanding.  It was good to see their relationship develop and the trust and understanding for/of each other grow.

There is a lot of action in this book making the pages fly by.  I was surprised how fast I read this once I got into the story.  There are a few scenes where you can catch your breath but mostly you are riveted, wanting to see what will happen next.

The secondary characters were all engaging and multidimensional.  Each was different and had their own story to tell.  The next book in this series, Mine to Hold,  is about one of Trace’s best friends and character introduced in this book.  From the events of this story and what we learn about their back story, it promises to be a good book.  I hope there is still some mention of Skye and Trace cause it would be nice to see how they are getting along.
