Review: A French Affair by Lucy Felthouse

Sydney Tyler is renting a barn conversion in Northern France, planning to spend the fortnight getting some words down on her novel. Unfortunately, construction work in the other half of the building puts an end to her peace and quiet. Genuinely upset that the builders are going to disturb her, the property’s handsome English owner, Harry Bay, offers to make it up to her. He’s a little flirtatious, and after spotting his wedding ring, Sydney keeps him at arm’s length. Sexy as he is, she has no intention of getting involved with a married man. But when Sydney learns the truth about Harry, will their mutual attraction spur them on to work through their emotional baggage and make this more than just a French affair?

Far different from what I was expecting, this book manages to show Lucy Felthouse’s skill with description and setting a story into a place, as well as create characters to fall in love with for the length of the story.

Both Harry and Sydney are developed in a way that brings them to life simply and completely: Sydney’s point of view and casual asides are clear and clever, Harry is open and honest, much like a favored puppy.  That is not a bad thing, his friendly manner and sexy look make that puppy-like appreciation and excitement for exploring Paris, and Sydney work for him.

A large part of this story is consumed with a walking tour of Paris: from Notre Dame to Shakespeare and Company, dodging traffic at zebra crossings all managed to bring the sights and feel of Paris to mind: the sense of adventure and discovery clear on the page.   And then, there is sex. Hot wild, abandoned monkey sex:  shows this attraction between Harry and Sydney as a palpable need, not just a whim.  Their connection is steamy and often verging on raw passion, with every detail being worthy of envy.  Felthouse is fast becoming one of my favorite short erotic storytellers with her clever plot twists, locations and characters that are real and relatable.  The only problem here – I wanted more of their story…a good problem to have.

I received an eBook from the author for purpose of honest review for the Jeep Diva.  I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
