Review: A Taste of You (Give Me a Taste) Irene Preston

Hell’s Kitchen has nothing on the flames Giancarlo and Garrett ignite at Restaurant Ransom... Garrett Ransom is America’s hot chef du jour. He has a Michelin-starred restaurant in New York City, a hit reality TV show, and a new man in his bed every week. Yes, he secretly thinks his business partner, Giancarlo “Carlo” Rotolo, is hotter than a ghost pepper, but he would never jeopardize their friendship with a fling. Then Garrett overhears some juicy gossip among the crew and realizes he’ll have to break Giancarlo’s cardinal rule, no banging the staff - for Carlo’s own good, of course. Just a taste of Carlo should be plenty. Long-term relationships aren’t on Garrett’s menu. Giancarlo’s been in love with Garrett forever. He’s sure Garrett will eventually realize they are destined to be more than business partners. But when Garrett installs his latest boyfriend as their new chef d’cuisine and announces plans to leave Carlo in New York while he opens a second restaurant on the west coast, Carlo is forced to re-evaluate his life. Can a high-strung British chef and a nice Italian boy from Brooklyn find the perfect fusion of fine-dining and family-style.

Garrett and Carlo have been best friends since college and they are co-owners of a popular, upscale restaurant called Ransom. Garrett is the reigning chef and also does a kitchen reality show on the side while Carlo handles everything else.

Carlo has been in love with Garrett forever, but has virtually given up ever having a chance with him. He is travelling constantly, a bit of a celebrity, and has a new man every week. Then there’s the employee golden rule of not getting involved with any members of the staff. Because of this, he decides to open his own restaurant, sans Garrett, just for himself.

Garrett is jealous of Carlo spending time away from Ransom. When he overhears the staff gossiping about a man Carlo could never have, Garrett decides to make that man jealous by seducing Carlo. Just a taste he rationalizes. Garrett is unaware that he is, in fact, the man that they are speaking about.

I loved the book from start to finish! Food plays a huge role in the book and everything revolves around it. From dinners to cooking to restaurant scenes, it allows us to see both of their strengths and vulnerabilities. Garrett just plain never saw beyond Carlo being his best friend and business partner. Once his eyes were opened, he embarks on a journey of self-discovery. It was delicious (pun intended) to see this play out! There was something for everyone here-romance, humor, angst, and of course, love. The sex scenes were not too graphic. A Taste of You would be the perfect book for someone new to the m/m genre to read. Love is love! This is the first book by Irene Preston that I have read.  It was well written and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it!
