Review: A Weekend of Misbehaving by Carmen Falcone

When fantasy becomes reality…

The last thing nanny Alice Sommers needs is to be caught skinny-dipping by her sexy, cranky-pants boss—in his pool. Her sister owes a crap-load of money to a slimy loan shark and Alice really needs this job if she has any hope of saving her family. Fortunately, her boss is richer than sin and needs her just as much.

Art dealer Lorenzo Baldi will lose his prestigious career if his anarchist father’s paintings are revealed to the art world. He’s determined to persuade the paintings’ eccentric owner to sell them to him, even if to pull it off, he’ll have to blackmail his daughter’s nanny—a woman with the sexy curves of a Botticelli masterpiece—into being his fake fiancé.

The gorgeous island of Capri inspires some major misbehaving. But even as the loan shark breathes down Alice’s neck and the paintings move closer to the art scene, Lorenzo drops one more bomb that will change everything.

Carmen Falcone is a gifted author.  I had so much fun following the adventures of Alice and Lorenzo.  Having a plus size woman as a principal character is a wonderful idea.  She is never complaining about her weight and she is accepting herself unconditionally.  That is a brilliant life lesson for all of us out there: Be proud of who you are.

One word comes to mind when I am thinking about A Weekend Of Misbehaving and that word is ¨heartwarming¨ story.  It is a book that I will go back to when I need to disconnect from my daily life and need to add a little sparkle in it.  It is spicy and humorous at the same time.  The author was able to be as graphic as she wanted in her sex scenes and I did not mind at all.  In fact, I was entertained by those sex scenes!  I must say that it had rarely happened to me.  I had a smile on my face throughout the entire book, this is a good indicator for a feel good book!

It is a classical story between a Nanny and her employer (add a fake engagement to the mix).  When using one of those story lines, characters are what is making a huge difference between a great story and a weak one.  In this case characters were perfect.  Alice Sommers  is the embodiment of femininity and courage. When the story began, a loan shark want her to reimburse $20 000 that her sister needed for medical treatment. Feeling responsible for the well-being of her family, she takes it upon herself to make sure that it will be paid back in time.  She had sacrificing all of her dreams and aspiration to help her family out. That is what is making her a powerful woman (on the verge of trying to be a superwoman), fixing her family issues and provide health insurance for her sister.  On the other side, she is a hopeless romantic and a plus size woman, totally at ease in her body and sexuality.  She is honest and spunky.  She is a very talented at tailoring, and we see her dreams creeping back into her head one by one. I fell in love with her.  She reminded me of a Bridget Jones (but Alice is not hysterical !!!), a character that I adore!

Viola. Oh Viola!  What an interesting character! She is a strong woman and a caring one at the same time.  It is one of those strong secondary characters that I wish that I’ll have to chance to read more of her.  She invited Alice and Lorenzo in Capri and she is the main reason that their love story had a chance to start.  Viola is the glue of that story, without her, it would fell flat.  This character was absolutely exquisite.  Her awareness and her desire to see true love flourish between Alice and Lorenzo is a way for her to have her faith in love restored.  She went through a difficult divorce and I feel that her advice were spot on and  that it helped Alice to be clear about her feelings.

Lorenzo Baldi is a good character. Well written, with strong values and a kind heart.  Since his wife passed away, he did not believe in love any longer.  His heart is close and he refuses to open it to anyone.  He feels responsible for a lot of his marriage problems and has not been able to let them go yet.  At the same time, he is a hot lover and as passionate as Alice, he just has issue to let go of control.  Character was well construct, but it was not a wow factor.  He also have a little girl (Alice is her nanny),  she was absent most of the story but she was also the reason that Alice and Lorenzo kept a unified front: for the sake of her well being.

Bottom line it was humorous and very entertaining.  I especially loved when Alice and Lorenzo were in Capri, it was absolutely magical.  I could picture myself at this Marie Antoinette theme party!! My imagination ran wild a couple of time!  I definitely recommend this book. It has strong characters and a compelling story.  Watch me run to buy all of Carmen Falcone’s books!!!
