Review: Absolution (The Vampire Alliance #1) by Angela Louise McGurk

Absolution is a new story of heartbreak, betrayal, seduction and re-finding love.

Eve Blakethorn can barely remember what it was like to be unaware of the vampire world around her. Many years have passed since she met the stranger, the man who saved her life, gave her the world and promised her immortality. Unfortunately for Eve someone in power had not wanted her to have the world. Within days of her marriage her life is shattered. Everyone Eve cares for, vampire and human, is taken from her and she is left alone to fend for herself in a world she neither understands nor fits into. How can she hope to survive her dark and lonely existence while still plagued by the horrors she witnessed when her husband died? How can she avoid becoming prey to the monster who stalks her footsteps, the devil she has long suspected to be the one who brought about her husband’s downfall?

Desperation drives her every move, leading her into the darkness where monsters wait. Can Eve discover the truth about how her world came to crumble and who was really responsible? Is there another stranger out there capable of bringing her some sense of peace? And just what is the vampire government, The Senate, hiding in the dark tunnels under the city?

The first book in the Vampire Alliance series takes readers on an emotional journey full of suspense, betrayals and discoveries.

When everyone she cares for is taken from her within days of her marriage, Eve Blackthorn she’s left alone in a world she neither understands nor fits into. She needs to discover who can help her, who stalks her with evil intent, the truth of her vampire husband’s death and just what is the vampire government, The Senate, hiding in the dark tunnels underneath the city. But with desperation driving her every move, she sinks further into the darkness.

This steady to fast paced plot keeps reader’s in suspense throughout the book as the reader’s follow Eve’s desperate journey to discover the truth.  The author brings the story to life with vivid imagery, details and strong compelling characters.  The author also spices things up by basically giving the reader to stories in one, as the first half of the book also gives the history of friends that became vampires.  Both story lines are very intriguing and the suspense builds as the reader begins to figure out just what one has to do with the other.

There is some romance in the story but the main focus is Eve’s life after the death of all her loved ones and just what the vampire government and other vampire factions have done that impact her existence.  The reader can’t help but become emotionally involved in this young woman’s life, with the strength of characters that shows through and through all the adversity she manages to survive.

I will admit that at first I wasn’t sure what whether I was going to like this book or not. In the first half of the book , the chapters flip flop from Eve’ story to the history of how three friends became vampires and it was a little annoying, but the second half of the book made up for it and it became clear why the author gave us that information. I will certainly have to read the next book in the series to find out just what The Senate was doing and what Eve is going to do about it.Absolution
