Beauty lies in the truth.

A wife with a thirst for revenge desperately trying to save her marriage while hiding in the shadows of her memories... A woman with questionable intentions, a sketchy past and a taste for unavailable men... A husband in love with his wife, a man mesmerized by his mistress, a willing hostage caught between two obsessive women.

A murderer, a liar and a cheater. You think you know which one is which, but nothing is as it seems. After all, everyone wears a mask. Some are just better at hiding the truth than others.

Lies will be exposed. Truths revealed. Blood shed. All in the name of something far more potent than love and much more toxic

Just finished reading Altered State and I am completely floored. Truly I am beside myself trying to figure out what I have read and how did I not see that coming. I was sucked in from the very beginning and couldn’t put the book down. It all began with the Preface. I was intrigued, a confession of murder. But who’s was the question. It was quite the mystery and I needed to know. See while there are three main characters, Zeke, Miranda and Shelby, the story is told in alternating first person POVs from Shelby and Miranda. I tried to piece the Preface whodunit puzzle from the insights to each woman’s thoughts. At the end of each chapter my opinion would change. Which ‘she’ did it? Was it the Miranda? Shelby? And the ultimate question of why. Okay, I can guess why Miranda would do it. A cheating husband, the other woman, and active of passion…yeah I would want my revenge, too. And as to Shelby, what were her motives. Self-defense? Wanting Zeke for herself? Oh the motives of these two women just keep twisting and twisting.

I initially find Miranda a bit erratic, whiny, and such a priss. Not exactly endearing qualities. As for Zeke, I never really had a opinion of him. Yes he was the cheating bastard which I am sure will piss off a lot of people but really, I was semi-indifferent to him. That just leaves Shelby. Is it wrong that she was my favorite of the three? Potty mouth, rebellious, scrappy survivor. I knew there was more to her than just being a slut. Her story I wanted to know because I just knew it was going to be a good one. Boy was I right!

This is one story you really need to expect the unexpected except for one thing: Ms. Dominguez’s deliciously HAWT sex scenes which I personally feel should be standard in all her books. Drool. Make sure to have towels and fans handy. As for the unexpected, oh yeah. Don’t look for me to provide details. This is one hairpin turn roller coaster you need to ride on your own. All I’ll say is this, just when I thought I had everything figured out, this ride would take my on another loop de loop. And the ending, the whodunit, that final moment where everything is revealed, left me mumbling in shock. To quote a favorite movie of mine: “ACK ack ack ack ACK!”
