Review: Apocalypse Cowboy by Eve Langlais

It figured that the last man on earth would be the one who broke her heart.

The world died practically overnight, leaving behind sparse pockets of survivors, who must learn to live without electricity, internet, cable, or grocery stores.

When it came to survival, it was kill or be killed. And the most important rule of all; don’t let the zombies catch you.

When Brody rides off into the sunset, with grandiose dreams, he leaves behind not just his small town but also his first love. But the hopes he had of making it big are shattered when a deadly virus hits, and those who survive return as zombies to hunt the immune. Lonely in this new reality, he finds himself drawn back to his hometown and rediscovers the woman he left behind.

Hannah never thought the expression, “Not if you were the last man on earth” would ever come back to haunt her, but when the world’s population is decimated by a deadly virus, she regrets her words, especially when Brody comes riding back into her life. A very alive Brody who reminds her she’s not just a survivor but also a woman.

Eking out an existence in this new world is hard. Forgiving the blunders of the past sometimes harder.

Against all odds, Brody and Hannah survived the plague and have prevailed against the undead, but will their stubborn nature still tear them apart?

I should have expected this, but I still found a small surprise in it. Eve has created the softer, less violent zombie apocalypse for her fans. The romance also take precedence over the zombies. So if you’re worried about violence and gore, don’t.

It hasn’t even been a couple of years since Brody left town on his Harley alone, breaking Hannah’s heart. Hannah’s heartache didn’t stop there. The atrocities have continued to interrupt her life. The world dying away to zombies isn’t even the worst of it. She has stayed on her family’s homestead. She has managed scouting and foraging for supplies. Hannah has kept her disabled uncle and little sister from seeing the worst of what the world has come to. They’re surviving, that has to be enough.

Regrets. Brody has them. His biggest one is leaving Hannah behind. He has plans to make amends and the zombie apocalypse is not going to stop him. He has never stopped loving Hannah and he knows he will stop at nothing to get her back. He will allow nothing to get in his way of keeping her in his life. He just has to get back to their hometown. He hopes that she has survived for him to make up for the past.

Apocalypse Cowboy is a fast paced read. The voilence is light and the romantic sexy is hot. This is a perfect zombie read for someone who can’t handle the gore and violence that is heavy and horrific in many zombie apocalypse books. As with all Langlais books readers are given a well paired couple that keep the pages hot.

This sounds interesting. I love Eve’s work. I don’t usually do many cowboy books (deal with too many in real life LOL). Maybe in a zombie book it wouldn’t be too bad. I’ll have to give it a try. Great review.
