Review: Ask the Oracle (Revelations) by J.J. Black

This is book one in the Revelations series

When you absolutely have to know…

Grayson Muir is a know it all. No, seriously…he really does know it all. The strength of his abilities has him rumored to be the most powerful Oracle in the world. Gray couldn’t care less. All his life, Gray has played by his own rules. Whether through his own, private, clients or his work with the police, his only goal is to use his gift to help as many people and paras as he can. With abilities like Gray’s, he doesn’t have time for any distractions.

Unfortunately, that is exactly what he gets when Andreo Demos, a six hundred year old lust demon, pays him an unexpected visit. Dreo has been sent by the Demon Counsel with an appeal for assistance. The Lord of the Underworld has been murdered, the demon kingdom has been thrown into chaos, and Gray’s help is needed to identify the murderer.
Gray has his doubts. Demons don’t have the best reputations, after all. Still, despite his reservations, there is something about Dreo that calls to him. Whether it’s his dark good looks or the startling knowledge that Dreo believes they are destined mates, Gray can’t help but agree to offer his assistance.

Unfortunately, their road to happiness isn’t destined to be an easy one. Between court intrigue, their own unexpected mating, and a murderer still on the loose, they are definitely going to have their work cut out for them. What are the chances, they’ll get their happy ending? Ask the Oracle.

The first book in the Revelations series is mesmerizing m/m paranormal romance that keeps the readers tingling with anticipation.  The most powerful oracle in the world, Grayson Muir plays by his own rules and he doesn’t need any distractions. But that is exactly what he gets when Demon Lord Andreo Demos requests his assistance in the underworld. Things go to hell quite literally as soon as they get there, not only all the court intrigue, Dreo believes Gray is his fated mate.

This fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps readers on their toes with suspense, action, drama and romance.  The author describes the story with well written scenes and events which inspire vivid images that capture the imagination and draw the reader deep into an underworld full of danger and drama.  The strong compelling characters are full of charisma, easily related to and grab the reader’s attention from the very beginning.

The attraction between Gary and Dreo radiates hot and steamy passion from every page and the sex scenes are hot enough to set hell on fire.   The relationship is hampered by quite a few things, not only the murder of the King of Hell and all the drama of the court, but Gary’s not so great past makes him vulnerable and unsure, of course the fact that Dreo is smokin’ hot and really seems to care doesn’t hurt Dreo’s chances.

Anticipation builds throughout the story as the Dreo and Gary try to determine who the murderer is and who should be placed on the throne.  The betrayals and revelations and some serious violence adds some spice, but the story is balanced out by some snarky and humorous dialogue and friendships and romance.

I was thoroughly engrossed in this fantastic story from beginning to end. There are lots of intriguing characters and tantalizing possibilities for future books and I am looking forward to reading the next one.
