Review: Beauty and Pain (A Bit of Strange #1) by Harlem Dae

When a beautiful stranger offers pain of the erotic variety, would you be able to resist?

When Isabella catches the eye of handsome fellow commuter on the daily grind into London, she can’t help but fantasise about all the dirty things they could do together. The fact that they are strangers only adds to her dirty desires and wicked wantonness. How amazing would it be to have such a man bend her to his will and take her to the dizzy heights of ecstasy she longs to go?

Fortunately for her, things soon heat up between them and before she knows it his dominant layers are revealed and he shows her a way to combine the perfect slice of agony with the most dazzling of encounters that has her muffling her screams for more, more, more. My God, it’s just the way she likes it— were they meant to travel this journey together?

Every good thing must end, however, but will there be a second round? Or is Gabrielle nothing more but a ship who crosses her path for a one-time experience? Isabella’s not sure. She’s in it for the fun, but is he?

A quick and short read told entirely from the perspective of Isabella, as she works to fulfill her fantasies while fighting off the very aptly applied descriptive of submissive, this is a pure fantasy escape with a layer of erotic pain applied.

Harlem Dae (the writing team of Lily Harlem and Natalie Dae) manage to present a believable premise: a woman wanting to fulfill a fantasy with a man she has watched on the commuter train for months.  Isabella is surprised when Gabriel offers to brush her hair out of her eyes, and their moment is charged with electricity.  Taking the bull by the horns, Isabella uses a not-so-subtle approach, and turns on her flirt.

Finding that Gabriel is exactly what can bring her to orgasm, with a cleverly concealed toy, the two retreat to a storage closet in the buffet car of the train, as they wend their way to London for work.  Hot and steamy, Isabella is nearly insatiable and Gabriel manages to meet and exceed her fantasy’s expectations.

Only 40 pages or so, the story is quick, hot and sure to fill the need for a bit of something new when time is short.
