Review: Beneath the Surface by Melynda Price

He was the last man she wanted to turn to for help. But when freelance journalist Quinn Summers uncovers a shocking secret with the potential to rock Washington, DC, she reluctantly finds herself on his doorstep. Someone intends to silence her forever, and Asher Tate may be all that’s standing between her and a vicious killer.

Overbearing, arrogant, and insanely hot, the ex-marine Special Forces officer turned mercenary for hire is no bodyguard—especially when it comes to the stubborn woman who sets his blood on fire as quickly as his temper. Quinn Summers is a powder keg of trouble just waiting for a match, and he isn’t surprised that the feisty beauty has made some dangerous enemies.

To survive, she’s going to have to play by his rules—and that means stepping into Asher’s world, where he controls the playing field. But in his fight to save Quinn’s life, he just might end up losing his heart…

300 Review

When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. That was what Quinn had decided to do when her ex broke her heart. She’s been traveling abroad and writing articles to finance her travels. It is with this that she uncovers a human trafficking operation. She flees home and finds her roommate dead. She’s on the run and the last person she ever expected to save her is none other than a womanizing, arrogant and charming ex-military officer. However, there is more to him that meets the eye.

This is my second Melynda Price novel and I am a bit torn. I enjoyed it for the most part but it was not as great as book 3 in the Against the Cage series. This is most likely a spinoff to the 3rd book, Fighting for Control, as there is much overlap between the two. I would love to get to know more about the Tate men!!

I enjoyed Asher’s character in a way that all women love a strong character with a wicked smile and charm. He hides himself to everyone he cares about. He is reluctant to let anyone in and when he does he’s all in. He was the perfect match to Quinn. But I just could not love her for him. She is always having two conversations with Asher, one they are having and one she thinks they are having. Quinn is always assuming, comparing, and second guessing Asher. It gets old after a while and it proves Asher’s loyalty and devotion he has for Quinn.

In the end, the suspense and mystery in this book is amazing!! I totally did not expect the twist the book took at the end. I still can’t believe who the killer was and how deep in the government went! It really makes you wonder who you can trust and who you said run away from.

I was gifted a copy of this novel from the JeepDiva in exchange for an honest review
