Review: Best Friends with Benefits (Most Likely To #1) by Candy Sloane

Valerie Barkin and Alec Rogers survived bullies, awful parents, and seriously shitty social standing the only way best friends can—together. But with the unexpected sexual tension suddenly flaring between them, surviving their ten-year high school reunion might be a different story…

Val hasn’t changed. She still feels like the stringy-haired band geek the popular kids teased, but Alec has definitely changed. He’s now the front man for the Grammy-winning rock band Chronic Disharmony, with the sexual reputation to match. And he’s more than willing to help Val rock the reunion.

And then it happens—a drunken game of Seven Minutes in Heaven—and their fourteen-years-long foreplay comes crashing to the forefront…changing everything.

Seven minutes turns into a weekend of mind-blowing, no-strings-attached sex. But these best friends won't be able to leave their hearts out of it forever, not when the most meaningful benefit could change their relationship for good....

Valerie and Alec have been best friends most of their lives. They know each others joys. They know each others sorrows. They know each others secrets. They haven’t seen each other in quite sometime except for Facetime. Valerie plays flute for the philharmonic and Alec is lead singer and guitarist for his successful rock band, Chronic Disharmony. When they attend their class reunion weekend, some things have changed, but some things haven’t.

Once they arrive at the festivities, they are thrust into the middle of a spin the bottle game. Val’s spin lands on Alec and the action begins! It turns out to be the push these two needed to begin a new avenue of their relationship. They decide to go for it, but with rules. But we all know rules are meant to be broken, right? The delectable way they break them-whew! The chemistry leaped off the page. And oh my, the sex scenes were scorchingly hot!!

Their friendship has always been easy, but this new found attraction is throwing each of them for a loop! They tried to make the weekend all about the sex with no feelings-thus the rules, but their attraction gave way to deep emotional feelings for each other. Val wants to be with Alec, but given his rock-star status, she’s concerned that she can’t ever be enough. Alec wants Val around, but doesn’t think he can be what he thinks that she needs and deserves. Can they make it work? Or are they better off just friends?

Candy Sloane has a keeper in Best Friend with Benefits! I love a good best friends to lovers book and I ate up the tension that Ms. Sloane built throughout. There were a lot of feelings that they needed to sort through. I was rooting for them to get to the happy medium I felt they could achieve. It was thrilling, delightful, and very sexy read that I would recommend.

“I can teach you my ways.” He lifted his brows up and down comically. “The best way to get over a breakup is to fuck someone new.”

“Thanks, Confucius.”

“That’s Cock-fucius,” he tossed back with a wicked grin.

She shook her head. “I can only imagine what your fortune cookies might say.”

He opened his mouth to reply, and she pressed a hand over it.

“If you say it’s fortune nookie you get a punch to your namesake.”

Man up, Alec. Best friend or not, she is telling you to fuck her.

No more talking, no more thinking. He’d fuck her so hard she’d shriek the answer he’d waited for like it was the only word she knew. She’d forever equate the affirmative with the plunge of his cock. He reached for her. His fingers were inches away from those teasing nipples when she pulled back.

“I have rules.”

“What?” His voice was filled with shocked laughter. He pressed his outstretched hands against the bed. He should have known it wouldn’t be so easy.

“If we’re going to do this,” she said, her face so serious he thought it might crack, “there are things we need—”

“I have rules, too,” he interrupted. He didn’t at the moment, but Val’s maturity always did that to him. It was something he admired and tried, though usually failed, to copy.

“Mine first.” She focused her eyes on the mirror across the room and away from him. “I want an orgasm.”

Vanessa: Would you please start by telling us a little bit about yourself?

I’m a YA and NA author who needed to write some books my mom couldn’t read. This is my first erotic romance for the Brazen line.

Jacque: What books or authors have inspired your writing?

For this book definitely Katee Robert, Gina Maxwell and Tessa Bailey. I consider them the queens of the Brazen line.

Deb: What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

I write ever morning at 5am for an hour and I write on a day bed.

Christina: What do you like to do when you’re not writing?

Read, watch TV, hang out with my husband and our pets. Yes my characters have more exciting lives than I do ;).

Fredz: If you could visit any time period and location (past or future) when and where would you go?

The 60’s, specifically Woodstock. I have always been fascinated with that time.

Tiffrz: Where do your ideas come from? Do you set out to ‘outline’ a plot and situations, or do you let the characters take you along for the ride, and clean it up later?

I am a fast drafter, I have a basic outline but then I let the characters take it from there. In this book, I got the idea after attending my husband’s high school reunion. I just thought it would be fun to have two best friends reunite and turn into something much more at a high school reunion.

Deb: Can you tell us about your current work in progress, perhaps you could share a favorite fact or piece of fascinating information about it?

It’s the second book in this series that takes place at the same high school reunion. The head cheerleader and class geek end up in bed together by mistake. You can guess what happens 😉

Jacque: With all the characters you have created – are there any that you feel need to have another book or series to get their “story told”?

There have been requests for a character from my one of New Adult books to get her own book because she was a really funny and a reader favorite, but for right now no plans. I have lots of other books to write first.

Christina: If you could speak to any one type of animal, what would it be, and what would you ask it?

My cat or my dog, probably and it would definitely be: “what are you thinking?”

Vanessa: I’m a bit of an author stalker and I love going to signings and conventions. Do you have any upcoming appearances?

I actually have a baby due in May, so conferences are on hold for now.
