Review: Blood Trails (The Blood Series #2) by Alianne Donnelly

The plan was simple: show everyone how brilliant she really is. Fast forward past everything going horribly wrong to where Hailey is now… dying. The only upside left is the gorgeous mind reader who seems to have trouble staying out of her most unguarded fantasies. Too bad he’s dragging her back to the one place she doesn’t want to go.

The plan is never simple – and this new assignment is making it painfully clear that ‘simple’ is just not meant for Jeremy. It couldn’t be as easy as getting the impossible female back home. No, he has to play protector to a woman who doesn’t want one, doesn’t need one, and has a tendency to cause total chaos with one heated look.

But time is running out and the seemingly imagined threat is far more real than either of them anticipated. When all comes down to a single choice, which will it be: A life worth living, or one worth dying for?

Hailey has decided that she is going to do an extremely dangerous thing. She is going to do it to herself so perhaps she justifies that it is okay to do this, she isn’t harming anyone but herself. She’s read all the data about what she is experimenting with. Her sister is the main scientist behind this experiment. Per the blurb Hailey just wants to “show everyone how brilliant she really is.” All Hailey showed me was how reckless and immature she is. Her actions drag Jeremy into her life and down the path of a very dangerous space chase.

I did enjoy Hailey’s cat. As far as I am concerned the cat is the smartest of that duo. The cat is all instincts and primal needs. The cat wants complete control when she senses that Hailey is in danger. The cat is smart and smooth and lethal. Hailey needs that cat and Jeremy more than she could ever know. Hailey is in more danger than she ever realizes. She does have some major distractions in her life at this moment, she’s battling what she did to herself, she has to contend with the cat, and then there is Jeremy.

Oh there is a delectably sexy mind reader chasing Hailey. He has been tasked to bring her home. Jeremy is on board with the getting Hailey home plan, he wants her in his house. Jeremy and Hailey have a very sexy mind meld dream thing going on. He is such a likeable hero.

I NEVER mention this in a review. I feel that I would be doing an unjust service if I did not mention it though. Blood Trail’s has a perfect cover that reflects everything about this book. The title is beyond appropriate. The imagines on the cover are Hailey and her cat. The colors portray the setting and the climate that her cat prefers. The cover is amazingly perfect for this book.

Favorite quote: Jeremy to Hailey. “I don’t need you to catch me. I just need you to leap with me.”

I do recommend reading The Blood Series in order. Readers are treated to some page time with the uber alpha very sexy Tristan, and readers get to see a little of what he and Dara have been up to since their happily ever after. Blood Trails takes place five years after Blood Moons.
