Review: Bound by Night (MoonBound Clan Vampire #1) by Larissa Ione

The first installment in a sexy new paranormal romance series by Larissa Ione, author of the bestselling Demonica series!

A WOMAN OUT FOR BLOOD
Nicole Martin was only eight years old when the vampire slaves rose up in rebellion and killed her family. Now she devotes her life to finding a vaccine against vampirism, hoping to wipe out her memories—along with every bloodsucker on the planet. But there’s one thing she cannot destroy: her searing, undeniable attraction for the one man she should hate and fear the most . . .

A VAMPIRE OUT FOR REVENGE
A member of the renegade vampire MoonBound Clan, Riker is haunted by demons of his own. When he recognizes Nicole and remembers how her family enslaved his loved ones, his heart burns for vengeance. But when he kidnaps Nicole and holds her in a secret lair, his mortal enemy becomes his soul obsession, his greatest temptation, and, perhaps, his only salvation—a hot-blooded lover who could heal him with her touch . . . or bury him forever.

I love Ione’s books. I’m a big fan of paranormal romance. I’m an even bigger fan of paranormal with a different twist that I have not read. Throw in the fact that this world is my favorite type of paranormal world, one where the humans are fully aware of the others. This is a recipe for awesome. Bound by Night is the first in a brand new series that has all of these things with a warren of sexy vampires. As with every first book in any series I’ve ever read there is a large chunk devoted to world building. This is done through dialogue and dispersed throughout the book. Not one tiny bit of information dump! First books in a series are usually my least favorite because of having to learn the intricacies of a new world. I’m definitely looking forward to the next one.

The traumas of Nicole Martin’s childhood still haunt her. She has devoted her entire life to studying the vampires that killed her parents. Her parents left her the means and resources to do so thoroughly. Riker has also devoted his time to something he feels passionately about. He want to destroy all Martin’s. The Martin family and their business destroyed the things he cherished most in this world. His vision of happiness is not Nicole in his life.

The emotions are high with this read. Nicole and Riker know hate well. They also know guilt, self loathing, disgust, jealousy, and every other emotion you could possibly put out there. They both feel that the other one is the cause of all these problems and emotions in their lives. The roles they have had in each others lives makes things complicated for them. It is also the rocky road to an eye opening experience for both of them. The situation they are both thrown into forces them to learn about the others life. All of that tension makes for one intense read.

The epilogue will have you jumping on the internet to find out all about the curse and cryptic future next book. I love it when some all knowing being comes forth and tells a character in very cryptic words about what will happen to them soon in some vague manner. Larissa lines up which one of the intense MoonBound Clan Vampire will get the next book. Now we get to impatiently wait until August of 2014 for Chained by Night.I’m hoping that some more of the vampires secrets, how they came to be, and their native american roots will be revealed with the next book too.
