Review: Bound for Keeps (Men of Honor #5) by S.E. Jakes

Since losing their beloved third to cancer, Keith Masters and Johnny Lou Reed haven’t thought about filling the void in their lives with anyone else. Until a stormy Christmas Eve, when a half-frozen, newly discharged Army Ranger shows up on their doorstep—with no memory of who he is or how he got there.

The former Marine in Keith is suspicious that he can’t turn up any information about Shane anywhere, not even an address. Direct questioning will have to wait until they’ve gotten the boy well.

Shane knows it’s only a matter of time before Keith and Reed figure out his past. And when they learn the depth and the darkness of the secrets he holds, he could get them all killed.

In the heat of the dark winter nights, the three men discover a passion that heals the gaping wounds in their hearts. And Shane wonders, despite the danger hot on his heels, how he will ever bear to leave.

Bound for Keeps brings something a little different to the Men of Honor series. The previous books in the series start out scorching hot. Shane, Keith, and Reed do things a little differently. These sexy men are all about the slow burn. They apparently like the buildup and anticipation of good things to come.

Keith and Reed have been together for eight years. It hasn’t always just been the two of them though. When Reed showed up in Keith’s life it was actually Keith and Bobby’s life. Keith and Bobby had an overabundance of love and welcomed Reed into their life, bedroom, and love. Bobby has passed away and Keith and Reed are still trying to figure out how to live without him.

Strangers stumbling to Keith and Reed’s house confused and lost is nothing new. In fact it is something that has happened long before they ever purchased the home. I liked that element of mystique and romance that the legend gave the book. Shane is fighting pneumonia, running for his life, trying to escape a wrong, and just looking for a place to lie low for a few days. He finds everything he never knew he needed at the never was an inn house.

Readers can go into this Men of Honor book without having read any other book in the series. None of the other past characters are mentioned. In fact this book actually introduces the Extreme Escapes, Ltd world which has S.E. Jakes Hell or High Water books and her Dirty Deeds books.
