Review: Break Me In (Geek Kink #3) by Sara Brookes

Elena avoids relationships by using her flogger as a shield. Alex is struggling with substance abuse and Elena will do nearly anything to help him conquer his demons, even risk losing him forever. When he comes home, whole and healthy, he raises the stakes by requesting their friendship turn to a D/s bond. His submission will change their dynamic forever. She convinces herself it’s just sex. Love and desire aren’t part of the equation.

Under Elena’s reverent command, Alex finds a comfort he’s always yearned for. He’s happier than ever as he spends his days slinging coffee and his nights bound and collared. Submitting to Elena exposes more than his strengths—it reveals a powerful attraction. Most of all, it uncovers their passionate love. He’s ready to convince her there’s no reason to mask her feelings, but his efforts are derailed when his toxic past resurfaces to annihilate their future.

Warning: A hunky, tortured barista. A seductive, stubborn Domme. Desire that can’t be tamed by cuffs, ropes and chains. And angst. So much drama and angst, John Hughes would be proud.
Being bad never felt so good.

Elena hides her emotions behind her flogger so that she can keep her heart safe. After his divorce, Alex’s reaching out to his old friend for help. After his demons nearly get him killed, Elena sends him away to get help. Returning clean and sober he once again reaches out to his old friend only this time he wants to take it one step further…a D/s bond. Under Elena’s command, Alex finds what he was looking for. But now he wants more. Can the woman who hides behind her flogger take a chance with her heart.

Break Me In offers a new twist to the Geek Kink series that no other title so far has done. The ‘D’ in the D/s stands for Domme this time around. Not having read too many books with a Domme in charge I was curious how this would play out. BAM! Just like that, I found my favorite book in the series. Just because a woman is in command does not make her all harsh and butch. I love how Elena is smart, strong and sensual all at the same time. Alex is equally awesome. No wimp guy here. He’s all strong and hot yet emotional fragile. Confusion of what he originally perceived to be nasty or kinky has him curious and ain’t it great when he finds out it was exactly what he was looking for. What I truly enjoyed was despite his bad marriage and her need to be in charge, when they start their D/s relationship, it strengthens the bond and the friendship between them. And let me tell you, just because it’s a she in charge, doesn’t make the sex and less hot. If anything, I think it was better.

I LOVE how all the secondary characters are from the previous books. It just adds so much more to the series than if they ride off into the sunset never to appear again. Yes each book can be read as a stand-all but why bother when you can continue to enjoy all the characters you’ve come to love in the books. Now by my calculation there should be one more book and that should revolve around Dade. He is the one I know almost nothing about and can’t wait to read.

I’ve become addicted to author Sara Brookes. Her novels draw me in and keep me reading into the wee hours of the morning. Break Me In is most definitely a must read in my book.
