Review: Broken (Lost #1) by Cynthia Eden

The first novel in New York Times bestselling author Cynthia Eden's sizzling LOST series introduces the Last Option Search Team, an elite unit that must protect the only surviving victim of a serial killer.

Ex-SEAL and LOST founder Gabe Spencer is accustomed to the unusual in his job. But when knockout Eve Gray steps into his office, he's rattled. For the mysterious woman is a dead ringer for the heiress thought to be the latest prey of the serial killer who goes by the name Lady Killer.

When Eve awoke in an Atlanta hospital, her past was a blank slate. Then she recognized her own face in the newspaper and vowed to learn the truth. Determined to confront the nightmares hidden in her mind, she never expects to find a partner in Gabe.

As Gabe and Eve work together, their explosive attraction becomes irresistible. Gabe knows that his desire for Eve is growing too strong, bordering on a dangerous obsession, but nothing pulls him away from her. And when another Eve lookalike disappears, Gabe vows to protect Eve at all costs. While Eve may have forgotten the killer in her past, it's clear he hasn't forgotten her.

I do enjoy a good romantic suspense.  Cynthia Eden did a good job with this one.

It begins with a lost soul with amnesia.  She has obviously been brutally attacked, but remembers nothing from before she wakes up in the hospital.  She doesn’t know who she is, who attacked her, or why it appears to be her picture in a group of serial killer victims.  She is lost.

Enter Gabe Spencer, founder of LOST – Last Option Search Team.  He and his team find lost people, usually.  Not serial killers.  And “Eve” isn’t really lost.  She is right there.  But Jessica?  Maybe they do have a case.

Oh the twists and turns in this story.  Every time I think I may have it figured out, there would be another twist spinning me off in another direction.  There were so many suspects, I didn’t know who was a good guy or bad guy from page to page.  Well except for the LOST team of course.  There was a nice amount of suspense mixed with a budding, if sizzling, romance.

The characters were well developed in an interesting way.  I was fascinated to learn about each member of the LOST team and how they came to be on the team.  I have not yet watched it, (though it is in my to-watch queue) but from what I know about it, I imagine this team can kind of be related to Criminals Minds.  Each team member has a specialty that contributes to the effectiveness of the team.

This was a fast paced story.  I didn’t want to put it down for fear I might miss something.  At times it got quite intense.  I was often holding my breath or gasping, right up through the last chapter.  Then it was gasp!  Oh No!  Hurry!  Look out! Whew!  *sigh*

Yes!  I will be looking forward to the next book in this series.  One – Cynthia Eden writes a good story.  Two – I want to see if each LOST team member has to go through this much drama to find love. *grin* Three – I liked all the team members and look forward to reading their stories.

You fans of crime drama, criminal shows like Criminal Minds, and/or action suspense with some romance, you will want to get this.  Now, if you are a Cynthia Eden fan like me, you will be limbering the one-click finger, if you haven’t already per-ordered.  This one is a don’t miss.

Excellent review, Pansy. You sold me with the gasping; I got chills because I felt the tension in your words over the suspense, and that what I love in my romantic suspense reads. Adding this to my buy list right away!
