Review – Chaos (Mayhem #3) by Jamie Shaw

From the moment she saw Shawn Scarlett perform at a school talent show, Kit Larson has loved two things: the guitar, and the gorgeous, green-eyed boy who inspired her to play. But one careless night in high school shatters her hope of ever being more than a notch on his bedpost.

Six years, two bands, and one mostly-mended heart later, Kit’s about to make her rock star dreams a reality as the new guitarist for Shawn’s band, The Last Ones to Know. He may not remember their reckless night together, but Kit has never forgotten… and she’s determined to make him eat his heart out.

The release of their new album means a month cooped up on a tour bus, sleeping inches away from the ridiculously sexy musician she’s never quite gotten over. And as Kit gets to know the real Shawn—not Shawn Scarlett, the rock god, the player—their attraction becomes too hot to resist. But the past is paved with secrets, and when they finally surface, Kit could lose everything: the band, the music, her dreams… and Shawn.

OMG, OMG, OMG!!! I’m really trying to take a deep breath to gather my thoughts in order to write a review, but my book hangover is getting to me…

Let me start by saying that I’ve been doing reviews for a while now (which is how I found this author BTW) and I rarely give 5 stars. The book has to completely blow my mind in multiple facets to get me to even think about this rating. So the fact that I’m giving this author her first 5 star review from me says something.

Let’s get down to the nitty gritty shall we? I feel like I’ve been waiting for this story for. ever. No really. I’m pretty sure I fell in love with Kit half way through “Riot” and have been anxiously waiting to see what the hell Shawn and Kit’s story was going to end up like. Well…besides an HEA.

Kit, you are by far the awesome-ist chick EVER! Not only can you play a mean guitar; you’re not a girlie girl, you don’t put up with anyone’s crap (ok except Shawn’s), but most importantly, you stayed true to your heart when others told you to walk away and give up. You are my new hero, seriously, not joking.

Shawn. Sweet Shawn who takes care of everyone. I have to admit that when I read the Prologue, I was starting to second-guess you and your character. But then I had to remember that you were an eighteen-year-old rock God to everyone in high school and had no idea what you were doing with yourself or your life yet. I’m SO happy that you and Kit were able to meet again to make up for time lost. You two really ARE each other’s other half.

What makes this a 5 star rating? 1, you can actually read this as a stand-alone, although I don’t recommend it because the back-stories are equally awesome. 2, reading about a guy who is an actual sweetheart is nice. 3, reading about a freakin rock star that’s a chick is hard to find. 4, the anticipation and build up between the two is something out of this world. I’m pretty sure “I” was about to explode when they finally gave in. And 5, this author’s writing gets better and better with each book she’s released. I have literally seen her grow in her story telling.
