Review: Claimed by the Captain by Demelza Hart

What a pirate captain wants, he gets. And when Becky Dymond is thrown across time onto his ship, Captain Jasper Trevelyan takes.

The very modern Becky Dymond seeks adventure on the high seas. But when her training brig is beset by a storm, she is flung overboard and loses consciousness.

When she comes to, she finds herself hauled on board another ship with a strange and intimidating crew. Scarcely able to believe it, she realises she has been thrown back in time and onto a pirate ship. But her situation improves greatly when she meets the charming and gorgeous captain, Jasper Trevelyan. Soon her desire for the pirate king is impossible to deny.

Jasper demands it all from Becky—her body, her loyalty and her cunning. His arch enemy, Redheart, has something that he wants back—the Scarlet Diamond—and Becky can help reclaim it for him.

If Becky wanted adventure, she’s getting more than she ever thought possible. Can she win Jasper’s trust and devotion and still get back home? The trouble is, there are no pirate captains back home.

What a fun ride (or is it sail) this story was. Becky has signed on as a trainee deck hand with the Tall Ship Aurora.  Her first introduction to the ship and crew brings several lessons learned, and forces her to fight her fears as she climbed the rigging for a training run.

Now fairly comfortable, a storm has blown up, and when a mast breaks and falls on the deck, she scampers up to the deck to help.  Wind and waves and rain soon have this novice deckhand washed overboard, and no one can hear her cries of help.

Waking after a tumultuous night, she soon finds herself a prize catch of a mid 18th century pirate ship, and at the mercy of the captain, the most beautiful and intriguing man she has ever met. From here the captain claims his prize, and some seriously hot and steamy moments ensue.

Becky has a choice to make: stay where she is or regain her life in her time: sailing the seas with a man who captivates her or return to who knows what back in England.

Demelza Hart captures the life onboard a ship with clarity, highlighting the differences in a ship of the 19th century and a ship built as a replica, with all modern technologies and conveniences.  She’s built a character in Becky that is strong, quick thinking and determined, with a touch of impulsive attitude to enhance her appeal. Jasper is dominant, alpha and utterly enchanted by her, and their scenes together are incredibly hot and steamy.  A fun escapist read.
