Review: Crash & Burn (Cut & Run #9) by Abigail Roux

It’s been five years since Special Agents Ty Grady and Zane Garrett first worked together to solve the Tri-State murders, and time has been both harsh and kind. Engaged now, they face the challenge of planning a deeply uncertain future together. Zane is at the pinnacle of his career with one last mystery to solve, while Ty is at sea in a world where he’s no longer the tip of a spear.

There’s just one more hurdle in the way of their happy ever after: a traitor from their inner circle who threatens to burn their world to the ground.

Squeezed between the Vega cartel, an unknown mole, and too many alphabet agencies to count, Ty and Zane must gather all their strength and resources to beat the longest odds they’ve ever faced. To make it out alive, they’ll need help from every friend they’ve got. Even the friends who might betray their trust.

Cut & Run

Five years for Ty and Zane working together. For eight years Abigail Roux has had these two (and the other Sidewinder’s) running around in her head. Sadly I just jumped into this world a little over a year ago. It has been a whirlwind ride. Their lives are beyond hectic and crazy, and some of the situations they have found themselves in have seemed absolutely hopeless. Their lives are finally at a good place. Ty is retired and settling into building their bookstore, his and Zane’s future. Zane has finally achieved his biggest career goal, Special Agent in charge. He just has one thing to take care of where the F.B.I. is concerned. Things for them have settled or so it seems. All it takes is one bloodied and stabbed body on Ty’s doorstep to throw everything off kilter.

When life comes knocking it really pounds the damn door down. So many things that happened in the previous books come back to bite everyone on the ass. Trust no one and question everything. Ty and Zane have been in the middle of something so big that no one ever saw it for what it was. The players behind it all make this one shocking romantic suspense. They have the Sidewinder team at their side but they have so many foes coming at them from every direction at every turn it is easy to see how this title plays into their lives.

I have to admit in the end I would have liked a few things more clearly spelled out for me. While I know this is the end of the Cut & Run series things can always carry over into the Sidewinder series. So perhaps that is why certain things didn’t come to light so brightly? I’ll definitely keep reading Abigail’s books to find out. Crash & Burn was an amazing closing of a door for Ty and Zane. Roux brought in all of my favorites from the previous books. She didn’t pull any punches for the guys when things got intense. They been drug over the coals and through the wringers plenty, they can go at it one more time. It all comes together for a great read.

I agree with you. I loved this book with all my heart but I would have liked more detailed scenes, like their families meeting… more scenes with them.
Anyway I loved the whole series! <3

  2. Mel Tye

We had everything in this book. Heartache. Betrayal. Romance. Suspense. Hot sex. Friendships renewed. I am so so sad to say goodbye to these guys.

  3. Nina

Yes it’s the end of Ty and Zane’s story, and it’s bringing me to tears just typing this. but their both alive and happy, and will live on with us forever. Yes there’s more we would have all liked to see, but that’s probably more so because we’re not ready to let them go yet. we all love them… (and I’m not saying loved because I’m never going to stop. the day that happens will be the day I’m no longer living) but if it’s true that all good things must come to a end, then i guess this had to.

I Love You, And I Will Always Miss You Boys.

  4. Angie

The only thing that left me wanting more was the TS guys – there was no real resolution as far as Digger, Owen, Nick and Kels went, but I’m assuming that’s because we will carry on reading about them in the Sidewinder books 😀

  5. Barbra

This has been a great series of books. Sorry to see it go but looking forward to the future. 🙂

  6. Lisa Guertin

I agree. I would love to read more of the interaction between the two families, especially Mara and Beverly’s talks.

  7. hyacinthess

Great reivew 🙂 I love this book series so much. I really look forward to the Sidewinder book too, omg.

  8. Amy S

I agree! I hope we’ll see more in the Sidewinder books (with Ty & Zane appearances!). Maybe even another Julian book?

I only discovered the series at the end of February and fell in love only for me to find out it was ending in just a few weeks. It’s been a wild ride for me the last month. Abi has made a fan for life with me.

  9. Jewel

I love this series so much and I loved Crash & Burn, too. Looking forward to more Sidewinder 🙂

  10. Alex

Book 9 was so fast paced that I couldn’t get an emotional handle on the book. Explosions, friends, coworkers, family, etc. So many characters came together to make this book and series what it was, and I’m glad we didn’t experience some weird Ty and Zane take down the cartel in a vaccuum plot. But by the end I was ready for Sidewinder to get in their own damn book just so I could get a final farewell with the boys. I guess nothing is that simple though, huh. Life inevitably keeps moving whether you can come to terms with what’s gone on and we can expect the same from Ty and Zane and their bookstore.

  11. Tishana

I loved how fast paced this book was. And awesome end to an awesome series.

  12. Naol

Book 9 was such an emotional ride. Who ever hasn’t read the cut&run series. Do it!

  13. Mandy

Ty just about broke my heart a few times while I was reading this. He’s not the first character to do that (*cough* Adrien English*cough*), but he and Zane are special. I’m so glad they got the ending they did. I’ll miss the snark and Ty’s t-shirts and so many other things about them.

  14. Lira

This book was really great. There was so much actions and things just kept getting worse until the happy end.

  15. Lasher

I downloaded this book a week ago and devoured it. Loved it. I’ve been doing a slowly-paced re-read in my free time this week. It’s great being able to pick up on the little nuances and details I missed the first time around. But now I’m upset about saying goodbye for a second time.

  16. Madison

I loved seeing a lot of the characters from previous books make appearances. Of course I’m a huge fan of the Sidewinder boys, so I was really happy they were all featured pretty prominently in this one. I like reading all of the interact with Zane, make him a part of the family.

  17. kmichelle1

I absolutely loved this book!! I intended to try to read it slowly so I could savor it, but I ended up devouring it in two days!! 😀

  18. Tammy

Love it! Love how everything works so well and for me nothing was missing. It fit what was going on and did not pull you away from the story. Gonna miss the boys but the ending is so them, it’s perfect. Thank you Abi! Awesome job!

  19. Maggie

I’m listening to the series on audiobook again, I don’t want to accept the end of the series yet. ;'(

  20. Jambrea Gaff

Book 9 is now my favorite of the series. I have loved this series since book one. Abi just has a way of pulling you in. She rocks.

  21. Luxath

Loved the pace of the book, couldn’t put it down. A great end to a great series!

  22. Susan Cosnick (

I think Abi did an amazing job of tying such an incredible storyline arc together. I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next!!

  23. Jenny

I love this series! I’m really going to miss Ty & Zane.

  24. exosphere78

Thank you for writing these amazing books. Can’t wait for Part & Parcel!

  25. Wendy

I’m not ready to say good bye to the guys! Great series!

  26. Jayme

There aren’t enough stars in the world to give to this book. It was amazing, and a wonderful send-off to Ty and Zane.

  27. Kura

I just finished reading this last book, and I agree with you to say a little more details at the end would have been great, but I still loved it. I particularly enjoyed the little “bonus” at the end. I can’t realize this was the last book….This series is my most favorite one and will probably always be. It made me feel so much different emotions through my reading, from fear to joy, sadness, excitement….Beaumont Tyler Grady and Zane Zachary Garrett will always stay in my heart ( as well as all the other amazing characters of this series) ♥

  28. Ren

Such a great book, and it really turns everything in Ty and Zane’s world upside down but everything still makes sense looking back at the other books. Re-reading the series, you see what was going on, it doesn’t contradict anything.

  29. Crissy M

Perfect ending to a perfect series… I sure will miss the boys but I’m am looking forward to the next Sidewinder 🙂

  30. Edit

This book left me in pieces and I’m still having trouble gathering them. Love, Love, Love it so much

  31. jazzgirl317

” All it takes is one bloodied and stabbed body on Ty’s doorstep to throw everything off kilter.”

In most other book reviews, I think this would cause at least a raise of the eyebrow. With Ty & Zane… nope, business as usual. LOL! Gods, I’m going to miss these boys.

  32. Elly

This series is so dear to me and im sad to see it ending. Crash & Burn was an amazing book.

  33. marami1973

So sad to see the end but Ty and Zane will forever live in our hearts and our libraries 🙂

  34. Viv

I loved Crash & Burn! I’m hope we will see Ty & Zane in the Sidewinder series!

I think I entered my email wrong in the last reply. Sorry!

  35. Casey Wolfe

I’ve fallen in love with Ty and Zane. I’m so excited to read this final installment. Unfortunately I’m still playing catch up with the series as I was late to the game. But it’s been an incredible journey, that’s for sure!

  36. Natalie

great end to my fave series. and the little surprise scene at the veryyy end made me so so happy 😉

  37. Sue K.

The series to match all the other books of this genre against – very, very few will measure up. I will miss these two so much, but hope they turn up regularly in the Sidewinder stories to come. Thank you Abi for sharing your people with us for so long.

  38. Heather Rawlins

Thanks for such a great series, I have truly enjoyed the ride!

  39. feowyn

It’s so sad to me that this series is ending so soon after I found it, but I’m so glad I found it. I don’t think I’ll ever be ready to let these boys go. I hope they appear in future Sidewinder books.

  40. Sherry

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. This tour was really fun, I’m sad it’s over already 🙁

  41. Jbst

So sad to see the series end, and we all hope to still see Ty and Zane in the Sidewinder series.

  42. Samantha

I am so excited for this book! I just got the paperback version in the mail the other day 🙂 Yay!

  43. Nicole C.

This series will always hold a special place in my heart. I’m going to miss Ty & Zane.

  44. Molly

So sad to see it end. I’m glad Ty and Zane got the ending they deserved, and hopefully they’ll be back in the Sidewinder series!

  45. dedicednu

Would have loved to see the conversation between their moms!

  46. alohahelper

When the title of Book 9 was revealed, I knew we were in for a wild ride and Abi didn’t disappoint! An awesome end to an awesome series! I’m so looking forward to the next Sidewinders book so that we know how the team is coping with what happened to them in C&B.

  47. Grace

I’m going to miss Ty and Zane so much. I loved the ending, but I hate that it had to end at all.

  48. katelyn

I have been so excited about this that I have been talking about it with friends, whether or not they have read the books, care about the books, are into the genre or have ever even heard of it.

My first reaction after my first read through was simply, “Perfect.” Of course there are things … there will always be things … there are answers I’d like, threads that could have been a little thicker and sturdier, characters I’d have liked to have seen from a slightly different angle (Liam springs to mind immediately). But here is the real thing – then things wouldn’t have flowed the way they did. The book would have had to be bigger and clunkier and it would not have had the “read between the lines” tone that the whole rest of the series has maintained so brilliantly. It would maybe have been a bit of extra gratification – but it wouldn’t have been Abi’s C&R voice – and it wouldn’t have been Perfect. More and different – but not true to the series.

As it is – Crash & Burn is so so beautifully painful and torturous and draws together all of the threads left dangling from the earlier books and ultimately ties them into a lovely and complete package without feeling forced or contrived or artificial in any way. It is everything that each of the earlier books led me to hope it would be.

So I stand by my initial reaction.

And I will continue to gush about it for days and days to come I am sure. *laugh*

  49. Leah K.

This book was perfect and I can’t wait to see more of Ty and Zane in future Sidewinder books.

  50. Kendra

Loved this all. I still want more, even if it is little scenes here and there, but Abi is still putting in some textsfromnicko, so all is not lost. Love these guys!

  51. Aija

Hehe, I’m not sure about some of the details, too…. Especially, did we really get to know for sure who the mole was? I think I need to reread the series 😀

  52. Sarah

This book had everything; we met our favourite side characters again, had hot sex, lots of action, tears & hopes. Loved it 🙂

  53. Lihllith (

My comment is spoiler-ish… No plot reveal or anything.
Unlike some if the others I was pretty satisfied with what I read about the families meeting. There was already to much going on to keep my emotions on high alert. I was pretty freaking pleased with the Beverly and Mara meeting. I just wish I was a fly on the wall for that conversation. Or maybe I should say for that dressing down. Gotta love Mara.

  54. em

I agree with you, there were definitely a few things that bothered me once I was done… but overall the book was so good that I just don’t care! And hopefully the future Sidewinder books will clear some things up.

  55. Brandy

Loved everything about the book and the cut and run series!

  56. JenCW

Thanks for your review! I agree, Abigail did an amazing job with this book and the whole series. I look forward to the future Sidewinder books to clear up the rest.

  57. Kelsey Steele

Hope we get to see more of zane and ty in the sidewinders books as there my two fav book characters 🙂

  58. Mae

I believe you are right and certain things were left in the shadows for future SIdewinder fun. At least, that is what I’m telling myself!

  59. Rachel C.

I really enjoyed this book and I thought it was a fitting end for their arc. But that’s not to say I don’t look forward to seeing them in the Sidewinder books!

  60. D. Nise

Abi is awesome about throwing us super-fans bones every now and then. I see these open areas in the story as places where we can insert our own ending or she can give us tidbits later add treats. I’ve learned to trust Abi with Ty and Zane and the crew. Thanks Abi!

  61. SaraT

I am a newbie to this series (started book 1 in early December) and have run the gambit of emotions in rapid succession. This series is fabulous & I have fallen head over heels for these characters ~ every last one! Thank you, Abi, for writing them in vivid, living color … I hope to see Ty & Zane again some day in the future (with Sidewinder or Liam or Julian/Cam or …) 🙂

  62. hkhelen

Work has meant I haven’t had the time to sit and read Crash and Burn all the way through yet – I’m halfway at the moment, and have cried off a friend’s birthday party at a bar so that I can read the rest tonight! Shhh, don’t tell.

Am loving it so far, though.

  63. BookHuntress

While I am sad that this is the end of Ty & Zane’s series cause I wuvs them, I am enjoying rereading the entire series and catching all of Abi’s little puns and foreshadowing

  64. Jenn Donald

This has been one of my very favorite series! I love Ty & Zane and can’t say that I’m not a little sad that this is it. Thanks Abi for such great books!
