Review: Crimson Mate (Of Blood and Spirit #1) by Nikki McCoy

A war is brewing. One that could end everything unless two men can learn to trust their hearts and break the barriers which separate them.

A centuries-old feud has pitted Ba’Kal against Vam’kir. Shifters against Vampires. Quinn has suffered the pain of the ongoing contention in ways no man ever should. Born the son of the Vam’kir king, his life was forever altered when he realised a truth that made him a target of both races.

As the Ba’Kal ruler, it is Manning’s responsibility to commit to the safety of his kind and find a mate to carry on his line. His very beliefs are called into question, however, when he discovers his mate is not only his enemy, but a man. Driven by duty to resolve this conflict, he gradually learns that there is more between himself and Quinn than their differences. That love can exist beyond boundaries.

To heal Quinn’s ravaged heart, he must prove his faith in their entwined destinies before their two races go to war. For only Quinn can ensure the survival of the Ba’Kal and Vam’kir.

It is Manning’s responsibility to commit to the safety of his kind and to find a mate to carry on his line but when he finds his mate, he’ll have heal his ravaged heart and prove his belief in their entwined destinies before their two races go to war in this riveting m/m paranormal romance.

This steady to fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps readers captivated with a fascinating new world with some interesting elements that make for a refreshing change.  The well written scenes and details capture the imagination and bring make the reader feel as if they are there right along with the strong compelling characters that really grab the reader’s attention.

Manning has a rough road ahead of him in this emotionally gripping story when he finds that he has to heal his mate and earn his trust before he can complete the mating bond, only Quinn has been traumatized for too long to easily accept that mating wouldn’t hurt him. The reader can’t help but get caught up in the story as the drama unfolds and Quinn learns more about his destiny and what he really is to the two races and at the same time he’s trying to handle all the passion that burns between him and Manning that of course leads to some really hot and steamy sex scenes.

The author’s explanation of her Ba’Kal and Vam’Kir world flows smoothly into Manning and Quinn’s romance adding lots of depth and understanding to the story and ensuring that the reader wants to know more.  I was completely caught up in the story from the very beginning and couldn’t put the book down until I had read every word and I can’t wait to read the next book.
