Title: Crushing on the Cowboy
As The Heartbreak Kid, Mitch Jenner is known as the biggest womanizer of all the rodeo cowboys—but it’s just an act to keep himself safe. In fact, Mitch is so afraid of coming out that he’s opted to stay single—and a virgin. He’s fine with being alone…until he meets the mysterious Paulo.
Paulo Bernardes is here to learn the American style of bull riding well enough to teach it back home in Brazil. A namorado—a boyfriend—will distract him from his goal, but he’s captivated by Mitch, who understands him even when they don't speak the same language. In return, Paulo wants Mitch to accept himself—and their relationship.
In private, Mitch yields to his attraction to Paulo and is rewarded with a heat and tenderness he comes to crave. But he still fears exposing their relationship. And as they grow closer, Paulo wonders how he'll live without Mitch once their time together is up—how he'll pick up the pieces of his heart when it's time to say goodbye.

The Heartbreak Kid is hiding something behind his flirtatious womanizing persona. Mitch is gay and has no clue how to begin exploring anything with another man. So he lives his life for the eight seconds on a bull’s back. He buys drinks for and flirts with the ladies at every stop on the rodeo circuit. He knows from the constant women in his arms that he isn’t even the least bit curious about a woman’s body. The one thing he is curious about is the handsome dark compacted stranger that is new to the bull riding circuit that Mitch follows.
Paulo is from a place that is more tolerant of a homosexual lifestyle than Mitch. Once these men acknowledge the attraction and the clothes come off Paulo discovers he gets to learn about the closet that American men sometime hides in. After leaving a boyfriend behind in Brazil this is not one of the American things he wants to learn about. His eagerness to teach Mitch how much fun sexy times with a man can be allows him to let Mitch lead the way when it comes to when and where they can touch.
Crushing on a Cowboy moves from slow and awkward, to speeding through the difficulties that a gay relationship can have, on to major flash forward. That pacing felt off to me. The language barrier and the way the Mitch and Paulo communicate was sexy and let readers know that these men were on the same page, that they were tuned in to each other. Their initial meeting and getting to know one another worked for me. While it was slow and awkward for them it made their story one worth reading. The anticipation was high in regards to the progression of their relationship. The shoe that finally dropped was just too lackluster in comparison to what had built up for Mitch and Paulo.
I’m not sure who Sarah M. Anderson has planned for her next Rodeo Dreams books. Sometimes with series you can get an idea of who will have future books. There wasn’t really too much interaction with any secondary characters that would leave one eagerly anticipating their book. My decision to move on with the series will be based upon the next books blurb alone.
