As far as book boyfriends go, Vincent Moretti does NOT disappoint…
After six years of being partners, Vincent and Jill Henley have seen a lot of grisly stuff, and they’ve got the good cop/bad cop thing down pat. But Jill takes a three month break to help her ailing mother, and comes back with a fiancé…and Vincent is none too happy about it, for reasons that have nothing to do with work.
Vincent is such a strong character that he jumps off the page at you, and his gruff demeanor is the most well-written one I’ve ever come across. His seemingly non-communicative ways are just the opposite, and Jill is definitely the only woman who understands what he’s trying to say (well, most of the time). He’s brilliant, focused, driven, and content in his life; his family is wonderful (can I become a Moretti?? Pretty please?). His partner is bubbly, energetic, fun…everything he’s not, and he’s fine with that.
But the sparks between them are so volatile, it’s a miracle they didn’t set the station on fire years ago.
Jill accepts that Vincent doesn’t want a personal relationship with her, and decides to move on. Her fiancé is a great guy – he’s so nearly perfect that she begins to question why they’re together. Then she adds in the small things Vincent starts doing for her, that he never did before, and she has to wonder if Vincent wants what he can’t have, or if he really wants her. It’s a tough one for her to figure out, because even though she’s usually in tune with Vincent, her own feelings cloud her normally sharp thought processes.
When these two DO get together, it’s not smooth sailing, but damn, is it hot! They are the perfect partners in both life and work, and seeing Jill realize her own shortcomings while Vincent digs deep to uncover emotions he didn’t even think he was capable of having led to the most entertaining, hot, fantastic read of the series this far – and, being as the first two were outstanding, that’s saying something! Highly recommended.
