With interesting relationships and an enticing plot, Death of a Waterfall by Kara Leigh Miller is a gripping new adult contemporary romance.

Teghan Jacobs, a spoiled rich girl, is ready to try living on her own when she begins her college experience. While moving into her dorm room, Teghan meets Donnie Marks, and they are instantly attracted to each other. Their chemistry sizzles on the page. Teghan would like nothing more than to date Donnie, but Alex, her ex-boyfriend, and Robert, her father, do not approve. Teghan wants the people around her to be happy, even at the expense of her own happiness, which makes her an intriguing character. Teghan, with her limited life experience, is not ready to stand up to either Alex or her father, so she dates Donnie in secret. Although Donnie isn’t crazy about sneaking around, he will take what he can get. Teghan’s life turns upside down the moment she discovers she’s pregnant. Although scared out of his mind upon hearing the news of Teghan’s pregnancy, Donnie wants to be a better father than the one he had, making him a compelling character. An overbearing and controlling parent who holds little regard to Teghan’s feelings, Robert is an immensely complicated, despicable character who you just love to hate. Furthermore, what he does when he discovers Teghan is pregnant with Donnie’s baby is downright unforgivable.

Death of a Waterfall, with its many complex and interconnected relationships, is a well-crafted novel that leaves Teghan and Donnie with a happy-for-now ending. But it’s the outright shocking plot twists that had me thinking about these characters long after the story was finished. I, for one, can’t wait to see what will happen with these characters in the next novel.

I received an eBook copy from the author for purpose of an honest review for The Jeep Diva. I was not compensated for this review, and all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Teghan had been waiting for this day for three long months. She’d been dreading it for just as long. Having survived her brother’s relentless teasing, her older sister’s dramatics, her mother’s smothering, and her father’s domineering ways, she had finally made it. She was heading to college and for the first time in her life, she was going to be on her own. Okay, so the Hayden Falls University campus was less than an hour from her house, but she was living in the dorms, and that represented a level of freedom she hadn’t experienced before. The possibilities of what she could do were endless. She’d thought taking time off after high school to spend a year in London with her brother and best friend had been exciting. It was nothing compared to this–probably because her father had hired a live-in bodyguard to keep tabs on them in London, which was such a drag. But there was no need for her father to do that now. She was truly free.

And then her family arrived seconds later in her father’s ugly green Lincoln Navigator. It was officially moving day.

“Mom, are the balloons really necessary?” Teghan asked.

Her mother, Rachel, maneuvered around the tiny dorm room with an ostentatious purple vase filled with white roses. Large foil balloons in the shapes of hearts that read “Congratulations,” “We love you,” and “Good luck” were tied to the rim. She set them on the desk that stood at the foot of the single bed. “They give the room color, don’t ya think?”

Teghan dropped her face into her hands and shook her head in disbelief. “Paint will give the room color,” she mumbled.
