Review: Denial (Careless Whispers #1) by Lisa Renee Jones

Book one in the CARELESS WHISPERS series. This is a standalone spin-off of the INSIDE OUT series (soon to be a TV show) that follows Ella Ferguson, Sara McMillan's best friend.

Ella Ferguson awakes alone in Italy, unsure of who she is, and a gorgeous man has claimed her as his own. He’s tall, dark, and sexy, with money and power, the kind of man who makes a girl want to be possessed. And he does possess her, whispering wicked wonderful promises to her, stealing her trust and her heart. Soon though, the past finds her, yanking her from a cocoon of passion and safety. Everything is not how it seems. The truth will shatter her world, but it can set her free, if it doesn't destroy her first.

Denial is my first book by author Lisa Renee Jones. I know Careless Whispers is a spin-off series from Inside Out series and at some point in time, I do plan to read it. However, for right now I will just have to make do with being a newbie to LRJ’s writing.

Quick breakdown, Ella wakes up in a hospital in Italy alone and not knowing who she is or how she got there. Her rescuer is tall, dark and sexy, loaded with money and secrets. Having rescued her from a mugging in an alley, Kayden is staying by her side offering her safety and protection. As bits and pieces of her memory start to come back, they realize there may be more to her mugging than being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Having no money, no memory and nowhere else to go, Ella goes on instinct and trust the man who saved her to be her protector.

Oh wow! Why have I waited so long to read LRJ! Denial was a great read. So much mystery and intrigue mixed in with passion while all set in Italy, I just couldn’t put this book down. Ella and her lack of memory, I couldn’t even begin to imagine how that feels. Kayden – is he a bad guy, a good guy, or something in between. I just couldn’t wait to find out! Ella really has no reason to trust Kayden and as the story continues. it’s obvious he’s not exactly a saint. There’s a nice steady build to their story with an occasional trip into ‘Holy Moly’ land. Now what is a series without a cliffy! Oh yes, Ella finds out something that may or may not be a game changer. What it is you’ll have to read for yourself and find out, I’ll I can say is watch out Kayden!

So what really did it for me? I think Denial has the whole package. Characters with just enough mystery you want to puzzle them out, a situation that keep you guessing, and just the right amount of sexual heat to fill a romance readers desires. I’m not normally one to just lose myself with a contemporary romance, but every time I put down Denial, I kept going back for a just one more page until I realized YIKES! it’s 1am and I need to get up in a few hours. Yes, Denial is THAT kind of book and it is so worth it so consider yourself warned.
