Review: Dirty Deeds (Dirty Deeds #1) by S.E. Jakes

Two seasoned operatives finally meet their match: each other.

Cillian works for the mysterious Special Branch 20: an organization that runs black ops commissioned by the British government. His specialty is deep undercover assignments with virtually no support. He’s been alone for so long that he no longer knows anything else.

Mal’s also used to being alone. Wanted in several states and even more countries, he’s not allowed in the vicinity of any of his former Navy SEAL teammates. And his current assignment is to track Cillian in order to discover the spook’s endgame. Except he’s no longer sure which one of them is getting played.

Cillian isn’t about to let the mission that’s consumed him for the past several years crumble because an outsider is poking around where he doesn’t belong. But Mal forces his way through Cillian’s defenses—and into his heart—exposing a devastating betrayal that could destroy them both.

Dirty Deeds by S.E. Jakes (Dirty Deeds 1) was a convolution of cloak & dagger and kink.  Cillian and Mal, introduced throughout the EE Limited Universe have finally come together in an unconventional way. Unconventional would be the word I would use to describe the relationship that fostered between these two operatives from opposite sides of the coin. Mal, former team member of Prophet, had been tracking Cillian for some time. Finally, face to face with the man, although Cillian had no idea who Mal was, the two met in a sexual dalliance.

Cillian, on the other hand, has had a tenuous relationship with Prophet that has now filtered into a relationship with Mal, albeit without knowing that the man that he was having anonymous sex with was also the man IM’ing him.

Confused? As much as I love an S.E. Jakes book, Dirty Deeds left me confused and rereading certain parts. The cloak and dagger was so cloaked that I lost sight of the story. I adored Cillian and Mal from the previous encounters and was thrilled when they received their own book, but I would have liked to have seen more depth to their stories. I can only hope that more will be revealed as their series unfolds, thus tying all loose ends together.

Oh this is definitely just the opening gambit for these guys. It’s a parallel story to Proph and Tom’s story so it will make more sense when we get the third one in that series and the second one in this one. I’m so excited for the big showdown with John Morris that has been building from the first Prophet and Tom book.

I agree –Dirty Deeds only cracked open their relationship, and all the new secrets hiding int he shadows, but even so I really enjoyed this novella, and SE Jakes has become a new favorite author since I found Catch a Ghost just last month! I’m dying for the next installments, both for Prophet and Tommy and now Cill and Mal. Strong alpha males and great sexy times? HELL YEAH!
