Review: Embracing Her Lion: BBW Lion Shifter Paranormal Romance (Carver City Shifters Book 2) by Lyra Valentine

It should have been a match made in heaven.

Jessa Atkins is a nurse capable of fixing everyone but herself. Sam Levesque, powerful mogul and the Alpha’s second, has scars he works hard to keep hidden. Sam can’t ignore the fated connection he feels with Jessa, but she’s stubborn as a mule and plays a mean game of keep away.

There’s no denying he’s blisteringly sexy, or that he wants to sink his fangs into her lush curves. Jessa has one, giant problem. She’s a cursed shifter, and can’t make heads or tails of the instincts telling her to mark him as hers.

Her game of avoidance is going peachy keen until the warlock that cursed Jessa comes looking for her. Cenek Cipris, warlock extraordinaire, offers to help track down the hunters threatening Jessa and the pride. But his appearance promises to disturb the delicate balance in Jessa’s life and make Sam question his desire to claim her as his mate.

Caught between the man her furry side says to love and the man who put that side there in the first place, can Jessa find peace with her inner animal and survive the blasted hunter attacks?

After being recently kidnapped by hunters determined to wipe out shifters, Jessa just wants to return to her life with little fuss. Her best friend and queen have other plans by demanding Sam to be her bodyguard. He also is determined to get Jessa to admit he’s her mate and get their life started.

This was a really good steamy yet short paranormal romance that you can sink your teeth, or claws, into. This is the second book in the series but I did not feel lost or confused. The author did a good recap at the beginning so you know what happened and why. The characters are fun, sweet, and feisty that I often found myself smiling and random times. Not so good when you’re trying to hide what you are doing at work!

The tension between these two is combustible from the start and it makes you wish you had a Sam of you own. I was disappointed in how he handled things but it makes you realize how oblivious men really are. They see what they wanna see. Definite plus is that Jessa was her own hero and proves her strength to Sam, showing him if he does not get his act together then she can take care of herself.

This book abruptly ended and left me wanting more. I don’t do cliffhangers very well but I am hooked and can’t wait for more!

I was gifted a copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.
