Title: Ethan Who Loved Carter
By twenty-four, Carter Stevenson has stuttered and ticced his way to debilitating shyness. Although his friends accuse him of letting his Tourette's dictate his life, Carter moves from Los Angeles to a quiet California town. He'll keep his head down and avoid people. He doesn't anticipate his new neighbor, Ethan Hart, crashing into his solitude and forcing him to get out and live.
From the beginning, Ethan makes his love for Carter clear. But he fears Carter won't see past Ethan's damaged brain, even though it makes Ethan more attuned to his emotions than most people. For Carter, there's a bigger issue: he's been burned by so-called "perfect" matches, and he won't risk his heart again.
One way or another, Ethan's determined to show Carter they belong together. Then Ethan receives tragic news. Suddenly he must turn to Carter for strength and support. Will Carter come through when Ethan needs him most?

Apparently my latest reading kick revolves around books that make me wonder how will the author make that work. Carter has Tourette’s Syndrome. Ethan has suffered a traumatic brain injury that left him a different man than he was Before. Carter struggles with people not understanding his body’s reaction to his condition. He finds that solitude is his comfort zone. Ethan is a social butterfly who constantly lives life to the fullest. Medical conditions aside these men are still total opposites. I love a good opposites attract romance.
Many times throughout Ethan, Who Loved Carter there are references to Before. Ethan knows he was different Before. Ethan also has a different perspective on things that sometime appears to be an almost childlike exuberance. Throw in the romantic aspect and I had some serious questions of how this would all work. My mind immediately going to the possibility of someone taking advantage of Ethan sexually. That is totally NOT what happens and I love the way Ryan Loveless let this story unfold.
When it comes to couples that are really just perfect for each other Carter and Ethan deserve a prize. Carter learns so much about life from Ethan. Ethan lives in a world of black and white and absolutes. There is no gray area. There is simply do and enjoy. Carter has lived hiding and constantly worrying about what others think about him. While part of Ethan was taken from him, Carter has denied his ownself part of his life’s enjoyment. This is quite simply a beautiful story of two men that have an amazingly good life ahead of them. Read it and love them, with a box of tissues.
Favorite quote, Carter to Ethan: “I never cared about anyone more than you.”
