Review: Explosive (Black Opals #3) by Tori St. Claire

A man on the hunt…

Jayce Honeycutt never imagined returning to his hometown for a wedding would find him confronting the woman he intended to marry.  Nor did he anticipate the passion they once knew would burn as hot and bright as ever.  Only now Alyssa’s involved with Jayce’s former best friend, and Jayce can’t bring himself to interfere.  When he learns Alyssa may be in danger, however, everything changes.  As the threats against her life escalate, Jayce will stop at nothing to unveil the secrets she’s hiding.  Even if it means risking his heart all over again.

A woman on the run…

Ten years ago, a brutal attack forced Alyssa Martin into a world of solitary darkness.  She threw herself into her career, but now her work has led her back into the nightmare of her past and thrust her into a deadly game. When her roommate employs Jayce for her protection, memories compound.  She’s never forgotten their shared desire, and her body still craves his masterful touch.  Yet Jayce is determined to break down her protective walls, and confiding in him is more frightening than the shadows stalking her.  But someone else is determined to control her.  To survive, Alyssa must trust in Jayce and bare herself completely.

Stars: four-stars

I really, really liked this story. It was heart-wrenching with the things that had happened to Alyssa in the past and how both of them suffered because of it. This book seemed to me to have more emotion involved than the other stories. It really sucked me into the story and I did not want to put it down.

Jayce and Alyssa obviously have some serious chemistry. From the moment they set eyes on each other again you can feel the tension in the air. The fact that they have some unresolved problems from the past as well as a current threat just adds a little something extra. This was a very well written plot the action, danger and suspense kept you on your toes with the sex adding extra heat to the story.

I like meeting some more of the members of the Black Opals and this time they are in the US. Jayce is on leave to attend his sister’s wedding when he stumbles across an old friend and a lost love. All I have to say is lucky for them they ran into Jayce because life as any of them knows it is about to changes completely.

What I did not like as much in this story was Alyssa. At times I thought she was just an idiot. She wasn’t coping well with things in her past and she was completely screwing up her future because of it. I realize people deal differently but she just wasn’t dealing at all and it almost lost her the one thing she has always wanted. However in the end she finally decided to stop being the victim and got stronger. Alyssa was basically a bad and good point for the story. While I felt like she was an idiot at times and didn’t agree with most of her choices this also pulled me into the story more just to see if she got her self straightened out or not.

This is my favorite in the Black Opals series so far. I will definitely keep reading to see who is next in line in the Black Opals and what will happen next.
