Review: Exquisite Trouble (Iron Horse MC #1) By Ann Mayburn

Before I met Smoke I'd never been kissed, really kissed, by a man, let alone a biker sex god bent on taking my virginity and my heart.

I got dragged into the deadly world of the Iron Horse MC by my crazy twin sister who is engaged to the club's President and even crazier mom who only cares about herself. Smoke has been assigned by the club to keep me safe even though he's everything that I should be afraid of. He's the kind of man who lives by his own rules and does whatever he wants whenever he wants, but he treats me like I'm something rare and precious, not a socially dysfunctional basket case who has no idea how to love, but needs him more than her next breath.

Not that my feelings matter, because if we don't find my mother soon, the only thing I'll have to be worried about is who is going to kill me first.

Sue Wanda ‘Swan’ Anderson is minding her own business, working as a server to pay for her college classes while she gets her degree when she gets kidnapped by a biker gang that thinks she is her twin sister, Sarah. After she is rescued by a different biker gang that her sister is part of, she finds out that her mother has dragged them both into a huge mess that she may not be able to find her out of without help. Enter Miguel ‘Smoke’ Santos. Sarah asked Smoke to watch out for her sister the previous year and since then he has been watching, semi stalking her since. He had decided that he wanted her but soon finds his obsession for her is more than a physical thing, he truly cares for her.

This was a very good MC book. I enjoyed the world that Mayburn created. It wasn’t too rough and tumble on the pages which I appreciated but she doesn’t make these bikers all soft and squishy either. They are bikers that do illegal things and have way to much meaningless sex with women they consider disposable but you don’t see too much of that on page. Well, some of the sex is on page but the ruthless biker stuff is mentioned but not detailed. I appreciated that the story was more about the relationship between Smoke and Swan and didn’t focus on all the club business.

Speaking of the relationship between Smoke and Swan, wow! They are scorching together. Given that fact that she is a virgin (not a spoiler, it’s in the synopsis) she and Smoke are extremely creative in their activities since he doesn’t want to have sex with her till he gets her to trust him completely. But the things they do working up to that point are very steamy and the language that Smoke and sometimes Swan uses is very graphic.

There is also a mystery type plot in the mix here as well. As mentioned Swan is in a lot of trouble because of things her mom did. Now her sister has taken off and is looking for their mom leaving her fiance’, the president of the biker club, to look for her and protect Swan. We don’t get too much information on this part of the story, at least not all at once. We learn more towards the end of the book but we are still left with a lot of questions.

There is a second part to this story. Exquisite Danger is the continuation of Swan and Smoke’s story. As this story has a happy for now ending but leaves quite a bit up in the air I suggest reading the second part as soon as possible. I know that I am going to be reading it as soon as I finish this review. I am excited to see what happens with Sarah, how Swan and Smoke continue to relate to one another and watch their relationship unfold. There are also a lot of secondary characters that are intriguing that I am looking forward to reading more about. I hope that Mayburn turns the Iron Horses MC into a long series because there are a lot of great characters here that need their stories told.
