Review: Finding Their Way (Restoration #2) by A.M. Arthur

Thanks to an abusive father and a string of bad relationships, Riley McCage learned the hard way that people are not kind without a reason. Now, after landing a job at popular gay bar Pot O Gold, Riley is on the right track--until the night Boxer finds him drunk and drugged in the back room of an exclusive sex party.

Donald "Boxer" Boxwood wasn't looking for anything beyond some casual kink until he peeled Riley off the floor and gave him a safe place to stay. But there's something compelling about the guy crashing on his couch, and the two forge an instant friendship that eases into unmistakable attraction. Despite Riley's hesitancy, Boxer knows one thing to be true: he needs Riley in his life.

Riley risked everything to run away and build a new life for himself, and his secrets aren't something he'd ever wish upon his kind, gentle new friend. But when the past comes to call, he'll have no choice but to put his trust in Boxer…and believe people can change enough to deserve a second chance.

Boxer to Riley, “The past can ambush you if you don’t know to watch for it.”

Two men fresh out of long term yet trying relationships stumbling through a new and instant friendship that unexpectedly leads to more makes for an amazing read. Finding Their Way is a perfect example of that. Boxer had settled into a relationship that kept him mostly happy but not completely fulfilled. That is what put him at the same party where he would end up rescuing another stray. Boxer recognizes Riley from the bar Pot of Gold. Boxer also recognizes that the man is in complete distress and not in full control of his faculties.

Hard limits are something that Riley doesn’t have a hard time vocalizing. His boyfriend seeing that as a challenge that he’d do anything to concur puts Riley in a very dangerous situation. Dangerous situations are something Riley is used to and something he has become proficient in avoiding. Riley is still human and wants to be wanted. He’s tired of people treating him as something disposable. This often leaves him vulnerable to those that would take advantage. Riley’s time alone taking care of himself has taught him that everything has a price and no one does anything without wanting something in return.

Kindness and generosity is something that comes naturally to Boxer. It is ingrained in his. It is how he was raised to be. Offering a helping hand to Riley is a no brainer. Every conversation they have let’s Boxer know that there is something dark and sad in Riley’s past that has forced him to keep his guard up. Riley soon discovers that Boxer is the opposite of his what he physically appears to be. Trust may not come easy but Riley knows he wants more of everything Boxer has to offer.

There are so many things in this book that I absolutely hate to read about and I still loved every single page of it. That has to tell you something awing of the way this story is presented. I do believe that A.M. Arthur is quickly moving to the top of my favorite author list. Every single thing about Finding Their Way worked for me. I can’t wait to get my hands on the third book in her Restoration series.
