Sabrina York pens Folly, another tale that will entice erotic Regency readers with a hot opening scene featuring Eleanor DeWitt and Ethan Pennington at a masquerade ball. Building on the Regency period of her prequel Dark Fancy, York continues to develop the engaging couple of James and Helena.
Widowed and penniless, Eleanor devises a plan to remain in her husband’s estate—get pregnant. Eleanor and Ethan meet again at James and Helena’s estate for James’s birthday party. Ethan despises Eleanor because she was married to his enemy, and he plans to make her pay for her husband’s sins. Then Ethan discovers Eleanor is the beauty from the masquerade ball. So he offers to help Eleanor with her problem if she agrees to do whatever he wants, whenever he wants. Without options, Eleanor agrees. Ethan and Eleanor’s light D/s play adds intensity and passion to their blistering hot intimate scenes. After discovering that Eleanor was abused by her husband, Ethan confirms that he has done nothing to hurt her and then proceeds to make her feel cherished and loved, which is a beautiful thing to see. Eleanor is a feisty character who locks horns with Ethan when necessary, which I just loved. Another interesting aspect to this story is York’s masterful blending of James and Helena’s continuing story as we read about Eleanor and Ethan. I enjoyed seeing the growth in James and Helena’s relationship now that they have been married for a while.
Likable characters and sexy escapades make Folly an enchanting read from the steamy beginning to the perfect romantic conclusion.
