Chicago. The Windy City on the shores of majestic Lake Michigan. Home of such luminaries as Mrs. O’Leary’s cow, Al Capone and of course, Wrigley Field. Great city, Chicago, with a spectacular if checkered history.
An Unconventional Chicago is an “alternate universe” or so the publisher wants us to believe. This is a universe where the city is ruled by “gangs.” Crime and payola are the rule of the day. Protection rackets are common place. The rich get richer and the poor . . . well, they might be allowed to live, but on the riches terms. It is not the place an average person would want to live.
Squee! Dirk made it. Remember him? He was the guy being beaten for the pleasure of the “psycho twins” Michael and Luciano in the first chapter of the last episode. He is still alive but – “The White Widow ran Ward Four and from what he’d heard, she made the psycho twins in Ward Three seem like sweet cherubs.” – he is not at all sure he wants to be there. He is, however, reunited with the sister he thought may be dead and, “One ward was as good as another, as far as Dirk could tell.”
Dirk is a rather sweet guy in spite of the fact that he worked for the twins. Well, until they almost beat him to death. He really didn’t set out to be a hero type. Just kind of fell into it. Literally.
Just who is this dude his sister is working for now? Leon is HOT! Instant sizzle here.
Ganging up on Love was a rather exciting chapter full of betrayal! OMG! It is amazing that anyone can ever trust anyone in this world. Heart stopping! Breathe stealing! Gasp! Oh no!
I really need to go read the next episode.
