Review: Getting Lucky Number Seven by Cindi Madsen

What's your lucky number?

Lyla Wilder is done being the shy, chemistry nerd extraordinaire. While every other college student is out having fun, Lyla is studying. With her cat. Well, she's played it "safe" quite enough, thank you. So she creates a "College Bucket List"―with item #7 being a night of uninhibited, mind-blowing sex...

But she needs some help from her man-whore best friend.

Hockey player Beck Davenport thought Lyla's transformation would be subtle. Man, was he wrong. With every item she ticks off, Beck finds himself growing seriously hot for his sweet, brainiac best friend. And if he's not careful, he'll end up risking their friendship in order to convince Lyla that he might just be her lucky #7...

This is the classic new adult friends to lovers story! Beckett Davenport is a college hockey player who falls for his nerdy sweet friend, Lyla Wilder.  Lyla is your typical nerd. She loves chemistry, her cat, Einstein, and dressing like a hippie-long flowing skirts and colorful scarves.  The two meet when they are paired up in chemistry class.  A shared love for science starts the friendship but with Lyla’s goal of tackling a “College Bucket List”, Beck starts to realize that there is so much more to his best friend than chemistry!

Getting Lucky Number Seven is a fun and entertaining read full of laughter and some low-key drama.  Written with a dual POV, Ms. Madsen does a great job of letting you into the minds of Beck and Lyla which makes the book so much more enjoyable. I love knowing how the other is thinking!  Megan, Beck’s sister, and Whitney, Lyla’s roommate, make the book even more fun. I can definitely see more books to the series featuring these two!  The College Bucket is list funny in itself. Of course she needs her BFF(Beck) to help her complete it.  He’s always had her back and really gets her!  The lengths that Lyla goes to get the list completed is life changing for her.  She goes from wallflower to center of attention.  With her new look and the new found attention it generates, Lyla’s confidence grows stronger by the day.  Navigating through the list helps her to stop second-guessing herself and to go for what she wants.  I liked both Becks and Lyla.  You can relate to both on them as their emotional struggles are very normal for a lot of people.  The story is delightful and it flows nicely.  It’s a wonderful way to spend an evening leaving you feeling all sappy in the end.
