Review: Handcuffed by Her Hero by Angel Payne

Between a rock and a hard place.
To Sergeant Zeke Hayes, the expression has always been a non-factor. There's never been a situation he can't blast, punch, negotiate or smart-ass his way out of, which makes him the perfect fit for his Special Forces battalion--and a natural-born Dominant who's made a lot of submissives happy from Mt. Rainier to Vancouver.

That all changes when Rayna Chestain enters his world.

A rock.
From the moment Z snatches Rayna from the lair of a South Asian slave trafficker, his inner grizzly roars to life with protective intensity. This is a huge damn problem, because Z isn't wired to be a one-woman man. Growing up an orphan on the streets of Seattle has taught him that beyond a few hours in a dungeon, trust means disappointment and love leads to agony. But here he is, in the remote wilderness escape he'd promised not to share with anyone, harboring Rayna from a fiend who now wants his pound of revenge flesh from her--in the form of her beating heart. Zeke will stop at nothing to keep Rayna safe, even asking his SFG brothers to join him in the fight to hold his fortress secure.

A hard place.
Sheltering Rayna? Z's never done anything more right in his life. But wanting her? Dreaming of her body beneath him, bound and surrendering to his domination? It's the most forbidden fruit he can crave...and the only thing he can't stop thinking about.

A new beginning?
This is a dead-end canyon that no rifle, bomb or sweet talk will let Zeke escape from. The only way out is to confront the reality of what Rayna has done to him...the mountain she's moved in his intractable heart.

Angel Payne hits another one out of the park in Handcuffed by Her Hero, the second novel in the WILD Boys of the Special Forces. If you enjoyed Garret and Sage’s story, you’ll be completely entranced by Zeke Hayes and Rayna Chestain’s story. Even if you haven’t read the first book in this series, I don’t think it will be a problem because Payne does a masterful job of providing just enough information to fill in the gaps but not so much that you can’t go back and read the first book.

Zeke is a good-looking but hardened man after years of fighting in the Special Forces. He needs control to balance himself, and being a Master at his local club fills this need. Zeke’s heart has finally found the one for him, Rayna, but his head has other ideas. Believing he will destroy Rayna if he introduces her to his world of Dominance and submission, Zeke faces an internal struggle with between his heart and his head, making him a compelling character. Having survived being kidnapped by human traffickers, Rayna deals with the aftermath of her tragic ordeal, and Zeke’s friendship has helped. She wants to be more than just friends with Zeke. As they begin to experiment with D/s play, Rayna is shocked to discover that submission is something she needs. Their intimate D/s scenes are explicit and hot enough to torch your e-reader. Despite enjoying Rayna’s submission, Zeke decides to sever their relationship. Even though Rayna is a submissive in the bedroom, she is a strong and compassionate woman who stands up to Zeke, giving him plenty to think about, which I just love about her character. When Zeke finally listens to his heart instead of his head, it’s a beautiful thing to see.

With dynamic characters, sizzling chemistry, and pulse-pounding plot twists, Handcuffed by Her Hero is a riveting read that will certainly please readers of the genre.

I was interested in the first book and never got around to it, but now they both sound good. Thanks for sharing!
