Review: Hard to Let Go (Hard Ink #4) by Laura Kaye

Five dishonored soldiers.
Former Special Forces.
One last mission.
These are the men of Hard Ink.

Beckett Murda hates to dwell on the past. But his investigation into the ambush that killed half his Special Forces team and ended his Army career gives him little choice. Just when his team learns how powerful their enemies are, hard-ass Beckett encounters the biggest complication yet—seductive, feisty Katherine Rixey.

A tough, stubborn prosecutor, Kat visits her brothers’ Hard Ink Tattoo following a bad break-up—and finds herself staring down the barrel of a stranger’s gun. Beckett is hard-bodied and sexy as hell, but he’s also the most infuriating man ever. Worse, Kat’s brothers are at war with criminals her office is investigating. When Kat joins the fight, she lands straight in Beckett’s sights—and his arms. Not to mention their enemies’ crosshairs.

Now Beckett and Kat must set aside their differences to work together, because the only thing sweeter than justice is finding love and never letting go

Hard to Let Go is book four in Laura Kaye’s Hard Ink series. This is the first book I have read but I didn’t seem out of sorts while reading. Kaye does a wonderful job by telling us the needed aspects of the story from previous books while keeping us firmly planted in this one. Sometimes authors can get wordy with the back stories, but I didn’t feel that here. This story is about Kate and Beckett. Beckett is a man that although he is alive, he is not living life. Reclusive and closed off, things change the moment he meets Kate. Kate is a strong, caring woman who gets Beckett to come back to the land of the living. He slowly sees what he’s been missing and he is overwhelmed with his feelings. He feels he’s found his soul-mate in Kate and never wants to be without her. But as in most things in life, happiness takes work. These two have a lot to endure and work through in order to get to the happiness they deserve.

The romance in this book is just one part of the story. There were a lot of side stories going on that enhanced each other. It’s an incredible story filled with amazing, gripping the armchair action, sizzling sexy time scenes, and just an all out entertaining read. There seemed to be no downtime with all the action-which I loved, but I would’ve liked a bit of time with Kate and Beckett just hanging out. It would’ve added to the instant attraction they displayed. They definitely had the chemistry though, as they were utterly combustible together!

If you like your romances to include some action, suspense, and drama you should pick up this book and the entire Hard Ink series. The journey for these characters has been a powerful one filled with hope, understanding, camaraderie and love. Laura Kaye has cemented herself as a fan favorite and I am looking forward to what she’s got next on her agenda.
