Review: Hell on Wheels (Bluewater Bay #3) by Z.A. Maxfield

Nash is the reliable one in the Holly family, the guy everyone counts on to keep things going. His genius twin brother is off at university, so Nash runs the family’s auto repair business and cares for his partially-paralyzed little sister while his crackpot father invents. His life seems mapped out for the foreseeable future, however much that might chafe.

So when Wolf’s Landing actor Spencer Kepler-Constantine lands in his life, Nash is ready for a diversion. Spencer is in the middle of a very painful, very public divorce and isn’t ready for a relationship—not that Nash wants one. But they both need a friend, especially one with benefits.

As they grow closer, Nash starts to see his family in a whole new light. Do they really need him so badly? Or does he simply need to be needed? Then Spencer’s ex reappears with a grand romantic gesture, and Nash has to figure out what he wants—and how to get it—before Spencer’s gone for good.

I do love Bluewater Bay!  Charming little community in my favorite part of the country.  *sigh* What more can I ask for?  Oh yah!  Hot guys filming a fun paranormal TV series in this little community.

In this chapter of the series – which can each easily be read as a stand-alone – hot mechanic, Nash comes on the scene.  Literally.  Stalled movie star in fancy car – hot Nash on motor cycle who can’t pass up a stranded motorist.  So the story begins.  HOT!  I mean they steamed up the windshield hot!

Nash is mostly pretty happy with his life.  He’s not too sure about still living at home, while his twin (Ooo! Two of them.) is off at Stanford. But he has his own “garage apartment” – such as it is, and really, his family still needs him.  So all is mostly good.

Hot movie star – Spencer, on the other hand, has some real issues.  “Cause if ever there’s a time for righteous indignation, it’s when your husband cheats and then runs off with a person who earns more money than you, is better looking, and can do the one thing for him you couldn’t do in a million years.”  Yep, some issues.

I love how Nash helps Spencer deal with these issues.  Nash is innovative, not to mention a person who likes to help fix things – whether it is cars or people.  How could he possibly resist Spencer?  But, Spencer is still kind of married, though he is legally separated and proceedings have begun, there is some doubt about whether he wishes to stay that way.  Nash’s little sister, Shelby (I adored Shelby!) is enamored with Spencer and she things the ex is the one for Spencer.  *sigh*

The ups and downs of this romance is like riding a roller coaster.  I sighed. I giggled.  I gasped.  I yelled – “NOOOOOOO!”  I cried.  I laughed.  I sighed some more.  The ending really couldn’t have been more perfect.

Another hit for Bluewater Bay!

About the Author:

  1. A. Maxfield started writing in 2007 on a dare from her children and never looked back. Pathologically disorganized, and perennially optimistic, she writes as much as she can, reads as much as she dares, and enjoys her time with family and friends. Three things reverberate throughout all her stories: Unconditional love, redemption, and the belief that miracles happen when we least expect them.

If anyone asks her how a wife and mother of four can find time for a writing career, she’ll answer, “It’s amazing what you can accomplish if you give up housework.”

Readers can visit ZAM at her website, Facebook, Twitter, or Tumblr.
