Review – Hers to Heal (Black Eagle Ops #2) by Vonnie Davis

Navy SEAL Reece Browning sacrificed body and soul in the line of duty. He survived torture at the hands of America’s enemies, but lost his career and his voice in the process. Traumatized and desperate to get his PTSD under control, Reece escapes to Eagle Ridge Ranch. Under the big Texas sky, he finds peace, a renewed sense of purpose—and a woman who makes him feel like a man again. Her smile lights up his dark days, and her caress helps him forget the night terrors.

Ex-Marine Gina Wilson also bears painful scars: emotional wounds inflicted by men she once trusted with her life. She has fought hard to overcome her demons and build a good life for her daughter, and Reece is too intense, too damaged, too raw to let into her heart. Yet she’s drawn irresistibly to his steely gaze and heated embrace. No one else understands what it’s like to suffer in silence. And when Gina’s daughter is threatened, it’s Reece who risks everything to save the day.

300 Review

For those who have read some of my reviews, you know that I’m a sucker for anything Military. But I’m an even bigger sucker when it also involves Wounded Warriors. I have to admit that I was completely hooked on this series from the very beginning and was looking forward to reading about all of those on the Black Eagle Ops team. I’m not gonna lie, I was secretly hoping for someone elses story, but it looks like I got a little taste in this one anyway.

Gina is the physical therapist that’s been working with some of the boys and townsfolk for some time. She’s been assigned to the newest addition to the ranch, Reece, and has been having a hard time. Take away the fact that he’s totally hot and all alpha male, she’s been talking to him for weeks and he’s refused to speak to her. Desperate times, desperate measures. In fact, she over steps her professional boundaries a little bit, but it works. Reece is finally saying more than “no”, “hell no” and “mmm”. And now that he’s talking, her body is SOOOOO on board. It’s her mind that needs a little adjusting.

Reece has been through hell. No really. HELL. He’s been captured and tortured and created a little bubble that he’s been perfectly fine in…until Gina starts hitting all of his buttons. Now that he’s finally talking about able to speak his mind, he’s very well aware of Gina’s body and what it does to him. But it’s not just Gina that he’s noticed. He’s completely smitten with her daughter, Piper, as well. Must be the fact that Piper starts calling him “Daddy” from the get-to. And here’s where I start to lose a little of my interest, to the point that I keep talking myself in to continuing the story.

The instant chemistry between Reece and Gina is completely understandable. I mean, she rubs her hands all over him everyday for crying out loud. But she has a young girl who, yes, is totally cute and adorable. But who apparently has been “searching” for a “daddy” for some time now. And she’s dug her claws in to Reece. Now, don’t get me wrong. The interactions between them are precious and super cute, but it was really hard for me to accept some of it considering how fast everything happens. Ok, I’ve gotten that off my chest. I feel better now…let’s continue.

Despite my feelings about Reece and Piper’s relationship moving too quickly, the story is pretty cute. Once we learn about Gina’s past and who Piper’s dad is, not to mention how Reece was tortured, it’s no wonder why and/or how these three end up together. Because this IS a package deal. The drama with the Mafia isn’t over, but it sure did add some suspense. And of course now I’m chomping at the bit to get my hands on the next one.
