Review: His Favorite Color Is Blood: Coffin Nails MC (Sex & Mayhem #8) by K.A. Merikan

--- When life gives you blood, make mayhem. ---

Grim. Assassin. Leather-clad sex god. Has the most unusual taste in men.
Misha. Mutilated. Afraid. Will never trust again.

Grim is a bloodthirsty killer, and he owns it. Gay in a world of outlaw bikers, he firmly stands his ground if anyone dares to cross him. He takes pleasure in showing homophobes their place and fucking his way through a life of carnage.

But there is a part of him always aching for something he cannot get. When by chance he saves the most perfect guy he’s ever met, he is not about to let him go. Even if it means he needs to smother his broken bird.

When a masked, bloodstained man rescues Misha from captivity, he doesn’t know if he should thank the menacing stranger or stab him and run. Grim is not the kind of man who takes no for an answer, and Misha might now be in more danger than when he was trapped as a sex slave.

Misha cannot deny though that Grim is as alluring as he is frightening, and once Misha realizes what power his body holds over Grim, he understands that taming the beast of a man could be within his reach.

But any possibility of a future together is like a house of cards when Zero, the sadistic crime lord who destroyed Misha’s life, sets out to get him back.

Will the ruthless biker assassin at Misha’s side be enough to conquer the monsters from his past?

300 Review

The number one reason I accepted this book for review was due to Grim. He’s one of the main characters and the blurb states that he’s a bloodthirsty assassin. That tells me that he’s going to be a little crazy, hopefully a lot with a dark side. That tells me that the author will have to really work some magic to make him likable. So yes, I was very curious here. The genre (dark romance) is also way outside of my box but I really wanted to read a man who is leaving a bloody trail through America. I also wanted him to own the brutal cutthroat aspect of his career choice. I went hoping that he wasn’t going to be understood and redeemable. I wanted the dark and violent.

Grim to Misha “I think I might be a psychopath. “

To tell you that Grim is dark and scary would be an understatment. He is also tenacious. Once he has Misha in his possession readers see that he has a crush on Misha that borders on obsessive. There’s a reason for this though. Misha feeds every single one of Grim’s kinks. ALL. OF. THEM. Grim is so ecstatic to have his perfect man in his grasp and he has a difficult time realizing that there is a fine line between his rescue and kidnapping. I’m pretty sure kidnapping never crossed Grim’s mind but it most certainly did mine. Grim also has to work to earn the shattered Misha’s trust. I got the impression that Grim has never had to put too much effort into getting a man to share his bed. Misha seems to be the one man that will put Grim to work where his heart is concerned.

Misha to Grim “No one ever asked me what I wanted.”

As a character Misha is easy to like. As a reader I had so much sympathy for him. There were so many times Stockholm Syndrome popped into my mind as well. This isn’t the case but all the lines in His Favorite Color is Blood seem to be blurred. Misha is young and he’s been held against his will by some sinisterly deviant sickos for over four years. Grim is truly his knight in shining armour. Granted that armour is shiny with blood. Misha sees his amputations as a disfigurement. The circumstances that he lost his legs under brings on another side of hatred towards the lack of what would make him whole. Misha never imagined that he’d escape his captors. With Grim promising Misha a more normal life Misha realizes that he wants a normal man that wants him for the normal reasons. Yes, Grim has his work cut out for him.

This is the only book that I’ve read in the Sex and Mayhem or Coffin Nails MC series. It easily works as a stand-alone. I’m pleased that I stepped (jumped) outside of my box and accepted this book. It was something different and it fed that dark hankering that I had. Merikan did not disappoint of the dark factor. Grim kept his character while still winning Misha’s love.
