Review: His Last Defense by Karen Rock

Semper Paratus. Always ready.

Years ago, Coast Guard rescue swimmer Dylan Holt left Kodiak, Alaska, with his heart in pieces. He thought Nolee Arnauyq and her mouthwatering curves were behind him--until he's sent to rescue the crew of a capsizing boat...including Nolee. And Dylan is definitely not ready for the too-familiar way his body aches at seeing her again.

Nolee's always gone after what she wanted, and to hell with the risks. Now she's a rookie ship captain taking on the deadly waters of the Bering Sea. But out on these treacherous waters, there's no way to avoid the sizzling sexual tension between them--or the dangerous pull of emotions that could leave both their hearts lost at sea...

His Last Defense is full of action and sizzling romance!  Nolee is a strong-willed heroine who is the captain of a crab fishing boat in the Bering Sea.  She is a determined one! Wants to show everybody she’s got what it takes to make it in a man’s profession.  She’s extremely tough, very caring, knows how to captain a boat, and has a humorous side too!  When she comes face to face with her ex that got away, she is all muddled up! She was in the middle of crabbing when the ship she was running had a problem and was going down-fast!  Dylan shows up from the Coast Guard to assist.  That boat doesn’t make it, but she’s given a new one to take back out and get the crab needed to make her quota!

I rooted for Nolee from the beginning!  Such a tough girl to do that job, and do it well!  And Dylan, well he’s just a cool drink of water on a hot, hot day!  He’s gorgeous, very caring also, and heroic-given the job as a rescue swimmer he does.  The chemistry between these two was sizzling! I wanted them to sort through all their baggage and figure out what they have doesn’t come around very often! Lots of feelings they needed to sort through, not only between them, but also their families. Not easy stuff, for sure!

This was the first book by Karen Rock I have had the pleasure of reading and I enjoyed her style of writing.  She did her homework on Alaska crabbing, even giving Johnathan, from the Time Bandit, a dedication in the beginning! And since I have watched Deadliest Catch, I knew she had gotten the info right! His Last Defense was full of action, drama, and tender moments. I definitely recommend reading it!
