Review: His Scandalous Kiss (Secrets at Thorncliff Manor #3) by Sophie Barnes

Thorncliff Manor is the perfect setting for a masquerade ball . . . where the heart’s secret desires are about to be uncovered in this scintillating Regency romance from Sophie Barnes

Richard Heartly has exiled himself from society since the war, plotting his revenge for a terrible betrayal. A masked ball at Thorncliff Manor is intended to be a brief diversion. Instead, he encounters a fascinating young woman as entranced by the music as he is. He can’t reveal his identity to Lady Mary. But her siren song keeps drawing him back, and their clandestine meetings could be hazardous to his plan—and to her virtue . . .

Avoiding an unwanted marriage was easy when Lady Mary was ignored by the ton. Thanks to her dazzling appearance at the masquerade, she’s a wallflower no longer. Eligible suitors abound, yet the only man she wants is the brooding, seductive companion who keeps his face hidden. A man who tempts her to disclose her own shocking secret, one that could divide them forever . . .

300 Review

I am stingy when it comes to which historical romances I indulge in. When I read the blurb for His Scandalous Kiss, I knew I needed to read this book! I have read others in Sophie Barnes’ Secrets at Thorncliff Manor series and this was just as intriguing!

The book starts out at a Masquerade Ball and author Sophie Barnes spellbinds you with her words! I could clearly see what she was vividly describing! I felt like I was on the sideline watching everything unfold! I loved it!

Richard has been reclusive after returning from war. He carries scars he doesn’t expect anyone to see. The Ball is the perfect excuse to step out with nobody knowing it is him. When a beautiful woman captivates him, he knows it would be impossible to get to know her because of his scars.

Mary is a strong woman who wants to live life the way she wants. She has no intention of ever marrying and that’s fine in her book! After meeting Signor Antonio at the Ball, she feels some sort of kinship and wants to spend more time with him! When she has some clandestine rendezvous with Signor, she gets to know him better and secrets unfold. But there are those that want Mary’s reputation slandered and will stop at nothing to achieve that.

I really enjoyed this take on beauty and the beast! Their journey was one of enlightenment. Both characters had secrets and they were so wrapped around the plot I didn’t know what was going to happen next! I was zipping through because I needed to know how it would all play out! Such suspense and drama!!

If you love mystery, intrigue, and excitement all wrapped up in a fairy-tale type romance, this is the book for you!
Thorncliff Manor holds many secrets itself and its a wonderful setting for this series! This was a good addition and I look forward to seeing what interesting directions the author goes next!
