Title: Hour of Need
While fighting in Afghanistan, Major Grant Barrett receives devastating news: his brother and sister-in-law have been murdered in Scarlet Falls, the sleepy suburb of Grant’s youth. Emotionally scarred from war, the career soldier returns home on emergency leave to temporarily care for his orphaned nephew and niece. But when someone tries to kidnap the kids and their teenage babysitter, Grant knows it’s not a random act…and neither were the murders.
Already devastated by her neighbors’ violent deaths, Ellie Ross is shattered by the attempted abduction of her teenage daughter so she desperately turns to Grant for help. As they navigate a deadly search for the truth, they struggle with growing feelings for each other and Grant’s impending return to deployment.
But time is running out. The killer is growing bolder by the hour, and Ellie and Grant must find him before the children become his next victims.

In my opinion a good romantic suspense has to keep me guessing the who, how, and why until the very end. I like the many speculations that I will carry throughout the book. It adds the suspense and also keeps my interest. Melinda Leigh always keeps me guessing. Hour of Need has plenty of suspense. Throw in a sexy military man and a woman that will do anything to protect her family and it just keeps getting better. Add in a happily ever after and on top of the intense plot and you have everything you need for a great book to get lost in.
Career military man Major Grant Barrett has his life planned out. He is on track to follow his father’s footsteps to Colonel. When his brother and sister in law are ruthlessly murdered he finds himself in Scarlet Falls trying to figure out how his brother and sister in law ended up victims of what initially appears to be a meaningless killing.
Threats are something that Ellie never expected to come at her. Her life is quiet and without complications. After her neighbors are murdered she finds that there is obviously more going on with that than she ever could have expected. Her daughter has somehow become a target. The threats are rapidly escalating to something far more sinister.
The first book in Melinda Leigh’s Scarlet Falls series introduces her readers to a new world and characters. I hope to see more of the Barrett family in future books. Mac and Hannah definitely have their own stories to tell. I also would love to read how Grant and Ellie are getting on with their new life.
