Review: Ice Age Lover (Werewolf Sentinels #4) by Marisa Chenery

Dumped and abandoned on her trip to Alaska by her now ex-boyfriend, Jaren finds herself stranded with nowhere to go and no money. But a sexy knight in shining armor appears, and like any good hero, rescues her. And she repays him by getting drunk and riding him like her favorite amusement park ride. Well done.

Kajakti was more than pleased to find his mate. But when what he thought was an erotic dream turns out to be reality, he has no idea how to break it to Jaren that she made them mates while seducing him in his sleep. And the topper is she doesn’t even know he’s a werewolf. A fine mess indeed.

As Kajakti prepares to reveal all to the woman he loves, the dark wolves make a new move that could shift the balance in the war against them and put the sentinels at risk. Kajakti gets the first taste of it, which threatens not only him, but his unturned mate.

Stars: three-half-stars

While each book can be read as a stand alone, they are each connected.  It would be best to read the series in order to get the most from each book.

Jaren has just been spectacularly dumped by her boyfriend.  She is stranded in Juneau without money, a passport or credit cards.  Kajakti has decided he is tired of being lonely so he goes out to find a woman to keep him company for the night.  When he sees Jaren on the sidewalk he thinks she will do nicely.  As he gets closer he realizes she’s his mate. He quickly approaches her and soon they are spending the evening together, talking and getting to know one another.  Jaren also gets drunk and Kajakti takes her to his house where she sleeps with him while he’s asleep, binding them together as mates.

After each book I wonder how Chenery will keep the story line interesting since all the characters want pretty much the same thing.  To find their mates and defeat the dark wolves.  With each book I am pleasantly surprised at how she is able to make each story interesting and unique.  In this story we get Jaren making the moves on Kajakti and setting events in motion that cause them to be bound as mates before she even knows anything about werewolves or that fact that he’s from the ice age.  When Jaren discovers what Kajakti is she is, understandably, freaked out but she is willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

This is the shortest so far of the novellas but we still get to learn about Jaren and get more information on some of the other wolf brothers.  I would have liked to learn more about Kajakti besides he wanted to find his mate.  While some of the wolf brothers have distinguishing factors to their characters, Kajakti still remains a bit of a mystery.  I would have liked a little more character development with him. That said I did enjoy the scenes between him and Jaren.  He is very tender and sweet to her but he does break bad on the dark wolves when they meet.

I liked the twist we get here with the dark wolves.  There is also a new character added to the series and I think it will be very exciting to see where the story goes from here.
