Review & Excerpt: Jaguar Hunt (Heart of the Jaguar #3) by Terry Spear

An agent and a jaguar-shifter chase trouble, and each other, through the jungles of Belize...

Agent Tammy Anderson has a reputation: she prefers to work alone. So when she’s paired up on a mission with jaguar-shifter David Patterson—who’s only recently been released from jail—to say she’s less than thrilled is a understatement. Until she realizes that this sexy agent has what it takes…

Soon, what started as an “easy” mission to locate a missing jaguar takes the pair to Belize, where they’re chasing down two renegade teen shifters who know more than they’re telling. As the action heats up, can they keep their minds on the job and off of each other?

The third book in the Heart of the Jaguar series is a thrilling and action packed shifter romance that leads the readers on a merry and dangerous chase through the jungles of Belize.  On a mission to locate a missing jaguar, Tammy and David wind up chasing two renegade teens who know more than they are telling and as the danger heats up, so does their passion.

This fast paced and smooth flowing plot keeps the reader on the edge of their seat with suspense, action, pranks and romance.  The author brings the story to life with well written scenes and events that inspire vivid images and the well orchestrated action scenes are believable and exciting.  The strong compelling characters are easily related to and grab the reader’s attention from the very beginning.

The attraction between David and Tammy is hotter than the heat of the jungle and the sex scenes are hot and steamy, but the relationship starts off rocky and has few obstacles to overcome. Both of their past relationships play a major part in their personal drama but also in the mission that they are on, which adds lots of depth and spice to the story. The reader can’t help but get caught up in their stories with all the drama and hi-jinks that the teens cause, not to mention all the danger and suspense from the bad guys that turns into more than just a missing jaguar.

The author has created a fantastic world of Jaguar shifters that captures the imagination. I was completely caught up in the story from the very beginning and the author kept surprising me with lots of twists and turns, caused quite a few chuckles at the snarky dialogue and antics of the boys and lots of energetic and exciting entertainment.

He wasn’t going to kiss her, he told himself. Tammy wanted to keep their relationship strictly business until after the mission, now that they were home. He could understand that. To some extent.

“You appreciate why I needed to keep some distance from you, don’t you?” she finally asked, glancing up at him and looking so damned sexy that he nearly forgot the part about how he wasn’t going to kiss her.

“Yeah, you were afraid you’d lose focus on the assignment,” he said.

She snorted.

“You can’t be worried that I’d lose focus.”

She laughed. “Yeah, I am.”

Intending to prove he could deal with it, David said, “Here I was going to discuss the case with you, talk over what we could do tomorrow, and—”

“You mean like plan our next move?”

“Yeah, I can plan things, too,” he said.

“Sometimes, it’s better not to plan.” With that, she slid up his body until she reached his mouth. And kissed him.

She didn’t give him just a sweet little peck on the cheek or mouth that meant good night, sleep tight, and don’t let the bedbugs bite. This was a hell of a lot like the kiss they had shared in the bungalow bed. He was trying not to let his imagination run wild—if that wasn’t where it was headed—but he was all for it if it was.

He half expected her to pull away like when they’d been in bed together the first time, a sumptuous slip of a taste of fantasy and then it was gone. Well, not quite gone, because he’d thought about it forever.

Her hot little body was rubbing against his, her tongue slipping into his mouth as she pressed her T-shirt-clad breasts against his bare chest.

He slid his hands up her shirt and felt her soft skin and thought of the vanilla bath she’d taken. “I love how you smell, like cookies fresh from the oven,” he said.

She threw back the covers, took his hand, and tugged. “Come on.”

Great. He’d said the wrong thing and was being relegated to the couch.

He climbed out of bed and grabbed his pillow—at least while he stayed here, he was claiming it.

She glanced at the pillow in his hand. “What’s that for?”

“The couch.”

She gave him the wickedest smile. “You can leave it.” He didn’t want to ask where they were going and spoil the fun—at least he hoped it was something fun. Otherwise, he wanted to be back in bed making more hot and sexy moves with the she-cat. “I thought you were tired.” He didn’t know what to think.

She took him into a bathroom that had a nice-sized whirlpool bath for two. She started filling the tub with warm water.

“You’re taking another bath?” He couldn’t help sounding so surprised.

“I don’t need to remind you about what happened to the other. Since you were the cause of the interruption— twice—I figure I can take it and finish it this time while you’re serving and protecting me.”

He smiled, really getting into his new role. “I’ll wash your back. Have a soft sponge?”

“I hope you’ll do more than that.”

“Hell, yeah.”

This excerpt was unfamiliar to me…how could I have missed this blog post?! I loved this excerpt…I love romantic bathtub scenes like the one with Streisand and Kristoferson in A Star Is Born. I can just picture what will happen between David and Tammy . . . Sigh. Thanks for this post!
