Five brave military heroes have survived the hell of a Taliban prison to return home—and take on civilian missions no one else can. They’re the men of ARES Security. Highly skilled, intimidating, invincible, and one by one, tested again and again…

Lucas St. Clair’s prestigious family had a political future neatly planned out for him—one that didn’t include his high school sweetheart, Mia Ramon. Under their pressure, Lucas gave her up. But since surviving captivity, he’s a changed man—and a crucial member of ARES Security. When he discovers a dead man clutching a picture of Mia that bears a threatening message, his fiercest protective instincts kick in, and he knows he must go to her.

Mia has never forgiven Lucas for breaking her heart, and she’s convinced her feelings for him are in the past. But it’s soon clear that isn’t true for either of them. Now, determined to solve the crime and keep Mia safe, with his ARES buddies backing him up, Lucas will have to reconstruct the murder victim’s last days—and follow a lethal trail that leads right back to the fate of the woman he still loves…

It all starts with a dead body on the street. When Lucas is questioned about the dead body by the local police, little does he know it would lead him back to the love of his life…that he walked away from. Mia is a successful business owner. She’s put out of her mind the man that walked away from her. That is, until he walks back in with the story of a dead classmate found near his office clutching a picture of her with a threatening message. Mia never forgave him for walking away and convinced herself she doesn’t have feelings for him anymore. Lucas is determined to protect her and to win her love back but he needs to do it before the killer gets to her first.

Romantic suspense, second chance at love, and murder mystery, Kill Without Shame has that and more. Lucas is quite the alpha male here charging in on his white horse to save Mia from an unknown killer. He blew it once before when they were younger and of course with the threat of a killer after her, he’s going to swoop in, save the day (with a little help of his friends) and win back her love. Mia, come on girl! I know he dumped you but did you have to take him back so easy?! Okay fine, he smells good and he makes your heart go pitter-patter but you could have put up a bit more resistance.

Besides the fact Mia caved way too easily and let Lucas back into her life, Kill Without Shame did make for a good read. Lots of suspense and mystery building here. It was a little too obvious who the killer was but the puzzle pieces being put together made for a good read. Personally my favorite parts didn’t center on the main players, but instead with the added cast. The little romance that was going on between Taylor and Brian, now that I could get use to reading. As for Teagan, Max and Hauk, I can’t wait for their stories.

Here lays my problem. I like author Alexandra Ivy books. Her paranormals are awesome and I can’t get enough of them. BUT, her contemporary stories don’t stand out for me. Many authors are writing ‘brave military heroes’ stories and after a while they all begin to blur together. That is what is happening to the ARES Security series – too much been there done that. Honestly the whole reason I keep coming back is because of Hauk. That constant teaser has me very curious. I’m going to be crushed if, when he FINALLY gets his own story, it’s just more of the same.
